Reduce indentation to hopefully fix some codeclimate errors and use String.format() for more concise logging.

Makes some helper functions.

Attempts to fix various codeclimate warnings with this code.

Fixed 12 codeclimate issues, 2 additional codeclimate issues are preexisting.
