ls-remote, install dev versions of Zig, and colors!
Hey all,
This release of ZVM is small but mighty.
User-facing changes
-
Install specific Zig development builds such as 0.16.0-dev.1334+06d08daba.
- Downloads directly from ziglang.org/builds.
- Supports platform-specific .tar.xz and .zip archives.
- Retains Minisign verification.
- Provides a clearer warning when an old development build
returns 404.
-
Added zvm install --skip-shasum / -s.
-
Works for Zig and ZLS.
-
Skips SHA-256 verification and the missing-checksum
confirmation. -
Official Minisign verification remains enabled.
-
-
Added zvm list-remote with the ls-remote alias.
-
Added --json for machine-readable output.
-
Improved the human-readable table, including installed, ZLS,
local/remote master, and outdated indicators. -
zvm ls --all still works but now emits a deprecation warning.
-
-
Improved CLI presentation.
- Colorized help-section headings.
One issue with this is that if you runzvm --color off --helpthe colorized help will still print as it is rendered before --color affects the underlying settings. The next time you run--helpit will be uncolored. - Static Fish completions.
- Completion generation remains available for Bash, Zsh, Fish,
and PowerShell.
- Colorized help-section headings.
-
Improved the Unix installer.
-
Shell configuration only adds ZVM paths when ZVM_INSTALL
exists. -
Removed the unnecessary trailing slash from the install path.
-
Added clearer Linux, BSD, macOS, and Nix PATH documentation.
-
Internal and release changes
-
Reworked the Deno release builder to:
- Limit concurrent builds to available CPUs.
- Stream archive creation.
- Overlap compilation and compression.
- Remove uncompressed artifacts earlier, reducing peak disk
usage.
-
Centralized CLI error handling and added quiet/cleanup-aware
failure directives. -
Fixed completion-related unit-test behavior.
-
Corrected the installer workflow to target the repository’s master
branch. -
Updated Go and Deno dependencies.
-
Added tests for development builds, checksums, completion output,
and upgrade edge cases. -
Added repository documentation and CI housekeeping.
