v0.1.0: experimental release
Pre-releaseI've been working on getting Adobe's Creative Cloud apps running on Linux through Wine. This is the first release of what I've put together: the patches, setup tools and notes on what works so far.
It's still experimental. I'm sharing it now because the project has become too big for me to finish on my own, and I'd like other people to be able to pick it up.
What works so far
Photoshop and Illustrator have been used to edit small documents, save and reopen them, and export the results. Both also completed 30-minute test sessions. There are working InDesign document/PDF tests and Premiere-to-Media Encoder exports with audio. A fresh Ubuntu setup also installed Photoshop 27.10 through Adobe, edited a layer, and saved and reopened a PSD.
There are still crashes and hangs, video preview and audio problems, and slow or unresponsive menus. After Effects' interactive viewer remains black. All testing was on one AMD laptop, so I can't promise the same results on other machines. The progress page has screenshots and the details for each tested build.
Try it
Download adobe-for-linux-source.tar.gz, extract it, and follow the installation guide. Setup starts with:
./bin/adobe-linux setupThe prebuilt Wine 11.16 runtime targets Ubuntu 26.04 x86-64. Other x86-64 distributions need a source build and testing. You'll need your own Adobe account and license. Adobe applications aren't included.
The downloads contain all 29 Wine patches, the setup and launcher tools, a prebuilt runtime with its source and license notices, and selected screenshots and test results. SHA256SUMS and RELEASE-MANIFEST.json describe the files and their checksums.
If you'd like to help, testing on another machine, reviewing a patch or fixing one bug would all be useful. The research index and patch review guide should help you get started. These patches haven't been accepted upstream by WineHQ.
