How to set a directory with private attribute that is defined in .chezmoiexternal

In the docs the private attribute only applies to files, but I want to also apply it to directories which are archives in .chezmoiexternal. Naming the folder with private_ in the source directory results in a conflicted state. Is there a way to do this without including the external files into the source?

Does it work if you set it on the external via the field?

Nope, it still says that it's a conflicted state.
