Interconnected Pyramids
Human experience is often represented through pyramid-shaped hierarchies: needs, development, cognition, values, relationships, wellbeing and consciousness.
The Interconnected Pyramids framework explores these models as complementary rather than competing structures.
A pyramid does not necessarily have to remain fixed.
Different contexts may require different foundations, priorities or pathways. Layers can therefore be:
- 🔄 Reordered
- 🔗 Connected
- 🧩 Combined
- 🔬 Tested
- 🌱 Developed
- 🌀 Reinterpreted
The objective is not to create one universal hierarchy, but to explore whether multiple models can form a more useful interconnected map of human experience.
Safety, resources, physical stability and basic needs.
Belonging, attachment, empathy, love and social connection.
Learning, cognition, critical thinking, creativity and insight.
Movement, health, vitality, rest and embodied experience.
Awareness, attention, meditation, contemplative practice and subjective experience.
Meaning, values, contribution, creativity, self-actualisation and human flourishing.
Different psychological, philosophical and developmental models may describe overlapping aspects of the same larger system.
Connecting them may reveal relationships that are difficult to see when each model is studied in isolation.
This remains a working framework, not an established scientific theory.
The Toolkit distinguishes between:
- Established evidence
- Plausible interpretations
- Working hypotheses
- Speculative possibilities
Connections between different pyramidal models should therefore be treated as questions for investigation rather than automatically accepted as scientific facts.
The framework can potentially be used as a lifestyle reflection tool:
Which layer needs attention right now?
Instead of asking only “What is the highest level?”, we can ask:
- What is my foundation?
- What is currently unstable?
- Which relationships need attention?
- What does my body need?
- What am I learning?
- What gives this experience meaning?
- Which assumptions might I need to reconsider?
The ultimate goal is to create a modular system in which different models can communicate with one another while remaining individually identifiable.
Many pyramids.
Many perspectives.
One interconnected human experience.
