ANDROID XML
- Go to works in XML. Long-press
@string/title(or press Ctrl/Cmd+B) and pick from every version of it:values/,values-night/,values-es/,layout-land/, or a library's. - Classes named in XML open their code: custom views like
<com.example.Chart>,<TextView>,.MainActivityin the manifest, tools:context, fragments and navigation destinations. A library class opens as a read-only view. - Styles and attributes too:
?attr/colorPrimary, a style'sparent, and your ownapp:attributes go to where they are declared.android:onClick="save"goes to thesavemethod. - New: Usages. See everywhere a resource is used, in XML, Java and Kotlin (
R.string.title,binding.title). Shortcut: Alt+F7. - New: Related files. Jump from a layout to the Activity or Fragment that uses it, and back. Shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd+Alt+Home.
- Rename resources from anywhere you see them: the declaration,
@string/x,R.string.x, or a layout's first tag. Every use is updated, including ViewBinding classes and fields, and renaming a layout or drawable renames its files. Rename is now in the long-press menu, so it works on the phone too. - Quick Doc in XML: an attribute shows what it accepts and which views have it; a resource shows its value in every language and theme.
- Color and image previews in the gutter next to
@color/...,@drawable/...,#FF6200EEandR.color.... Tap one to open it. - XML files get an outline, and the sticky header shows which layout you are inside.
TESTS
- Run tests from the editor on the phone and on the desktop: JUnit 4, JUnit 5, TestNG and kotlin.test. Use the run icon in the gutter, "Test " in Run, or Ctrl+Shift+F10.
- Parameterized, repeated and nested tests are supported, and the gutter shows whether each test last passed or failed.
- Instrumented tests (
androidTest) run on a phone or emulator from the desktop app, with the same results view.
KOTLIN MULTIPLATFORM
- Open Kotlin Multiplatform projects straight from their Gradle files. Pick whether to build for Android or the JVM from the Gradle banner.
- Previews in multiplatform projects now work when they call an
expectfunction. kotlin.test.Testresolves in shared test code, and Android modules compile shared and common source sets.
UI
- A new template gallery for New Project: search, filter by category, and a grid that fits phone and desktop.
- The completion popup and its documentation panel are no longer see-through.
FIXES
- Opening a project could sometimes crash while it was indexing.
- A project you closed no longer reopens on the next launch.
- On the desktop, a program that closes its window or calls
exitProcessno longer quits CodeAssist. - Programs run in CodeAssist now catch exceptions they should have caught, and a missing class gives a normal error instead of ending the run.
