GreenThumb — Support

Everything about watering plants on time, and what to do when the app isn't cooperating.

Email: Support.greenthumb@gmail.com — put a short description in the subject line. Include your iOS version and whether you're signed in; it usually saves a round trip.

Getting started

Add your first plant. Tap + on the Plants tab. The only thing that really matters is the watering interval — how many days between drinks. A fern is not a cactus, so set it per plant rather than accepting a default for everything.

Not sure how often? Tap the info button next to the interval field. GreenThumb explains the rhythm it's assuming and how the number affects your daily list.

Give it a face. Each plant gets an icon and a colour, and you can photograph it with the camera. Photos build up over time, so you can see how a plant has actually changed.

Tags are yours. Living Room, Low Light, Succulent, Large — label plants the way you already think about them, then filter the list by tag.

Everyday use

The Tasks list

Three groups: Needs Water, Coming Up, Completed. Tap the drop to water a plant — no form, no confirmation screen. That's the whole interaction.

Snoozing

Not today? Snooze a plant and it drops off the list, then comes back when you said. Snoozing isn't skipping — the plant still counts as due when it returns.

Reminders

Settings → Watering reminders. Turn them on and pick a time; you get one notification a day plus an app badge counting what's still unwatered.

  • No notifications arriving? Check iOS Settings → Notifications → GreenThumb. If you declined the permission the first time, the app can't ask again — you have to turn it back on there. GreenThumb shows a note in Settings when it detects this.
  • Badge won't clear? It counts unwatered plants, not unread alerts, and it keeps counting across days. A plant missed on Monday is still on the badge Wednesday. Water it (or snooze it) and the badge drops.

Progress

The Progress tab shows your garden health score, on-time rate, a 14-day activity history, and a per-plant chart of how you actually water versus how you meant to. It's the fastest way to spot the plant you keep forgetting.

XP, levels, streaks and the thirteen achievements are all derived from your watering history — so they're honest, and they can't be nudged.

Accounts and syncing

You don't need an account. Every core feature — plants, watering, notes, tags, XP, streaks, reminders — works with no sign-in at all, entirely on your device.

Signing in adds syncing, so your garden follows you to another device.

Signing in

Two ways, and you can use both on the same account:

  • Magic link — enter your email and tap the link we send. Nothing to invent or remember.
  • Password — set one in Settings if you'd rather. It has a minimum length; the app tells you if it's too short.

The link didn't arrive. Check spam first. Links expire, so if it's been sitting a while, request a fresh one. If you signed up and never confirmed, use Resend confirmation on the sign-in screen.

Forgot your password. Use Forgot password on the sign-in screen — it emails a reset link that opens the app directly.

The link opens Safari instead of the app. Open it on the device with GreenThumb installed. Links use the greenthumb:// scheme and need the app present to complete the hand-off.

Lite and the Full Version

GreenThumb comes in two tiers, shown as Plan in Settings:

Lite Full Version
Plants, watering, notes, tags Yes Yes
Reminders, XP, streaks, achievements Yes Yes
Progress charts Yes Yes
Sync across devices — Yes
Shared garden — Yes
Plant identification by photo — Yes

The Full Version is turned on with an invite code, not a purchase. Sign in, then Settings → Plan → enter the code. If a code is refused, the message says why — usually it's already been used, or it's been typed with a stray character.

Sharing a garden

Settings → Shared Garden, then enter the other person's email address. When they accept, you both see the same plants, tags, notes, photos and watering history, and a watering by either of you counts for both. No more double-watering the one by the window.

Both accounts need the Full Version.

Things worth knowing before you accept:

  • Accepting replaces your plants with the shared garden's. GreenThumb warns you first. Your XP, level, streak and achievements stay yours — they're carried across, not reset.
  • You'll each see the other's email address, so you both know who you're gardening with.
  • Either of you can end the share at any time from the same screen. Changes stop flowing after that.

Identifying a plant

Open a plant's form and tap the identify button, or start from the camera. Point at the plant, take the shot, and GreenThumb returns candidate species with confidence percentages — tap one to fill in the species field.

For a good result: one clear subject, filling the frame. A single leaf, flower or fruit beats a photo of the whole shelf. If you get "couldn't find a species", that's usually the reason.

Identification needs the Full Version and a signed-in account, because the request goes through our server rather than from your phone directly.

Your data

Offline is fine. Changes are saved locally and sync when you're back on a connection. You don't need to do anything.

Sync says it failed. Settings shows the reason and a retry. Most failures are a dropped connection; the queued changes aren't lost.

Deleting things. Delete plants, tags and notes individually in the app — the deletion propagates to your other devices and to a shared garden.

Erasing everything. Settings → the wipe option. Every plant, tag, note and watering record goes, on this device, on your account, and on every device you sync to, along with stored photos. It cannot be undone, and the app asks twice.

Closing your account. Email us and we'll delete the account and everything attached to it, normally within 30 days.

Full detail on what's collected and where it goes is in the Privacy Policy.
