v1.0.0-beta.1
First public beta of the Tyto desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Tyto desktop is the chat client you know from the browser, packaged as an app. It connects to several Tyto servers at once, lives in the system tray, and keeps your sign-in in the operating system keychain.
Before you install
The macOS and Windows installers are not code-signed yet. Both systems show a security warning when you open them. The unsigned macOS build also can't update itself, so newer versions have to be installed by hand for now.
This is a beta. The Linux build has been tested on a real machine. The macOS and Windows builds pass automated checks but have had no hands-on testing yet, so reports from those systems are especially welcome.

What's in it
- Several servers in one window. One rail for the communities of every server you've added, with live unread and mention badges for all of them.
- Switching without signing in again. Every server stays connected in the background.
- Guest browsing. Add a server without an account and read its public communities.
- Direct messages in one list, across all your servers.
- Voice calls that survive switching servers.
- Tray icon and menu: unread and call status, mute, leave call, snooze notifications, presence, start on boot, start minimized.
- Native notifications from every server you're signed in to. Clicking one opens the right server and message.
tyto://links open messages in the app, and ask before adding a new server.- Automatic updates on Windows and with the Linux AppImage.
- Ten languages, including the tray menu.
Requirements
- Server: Tyto core 1.0.0-beta.5 or newer works without any configuration. On older servers the admin has to add
app://tytotoCORS_ALLOW_ORIGIN. - Linux: a running secret service such as GNOME Keyring or KWallet. The app refuses to start without one, so your sign-in is never stored unprotected.
Known limitations
- Installers for macOS and Windows are unsigned.
- The
.debpackage doesn't update itself. Install the newer package over it. - One account per server.
