Issue with overriding (removing) certain packages

Hi,

I would like to remove certain base packages from my Aurora install (latest-44.20260520.1). Specifically:

• Docker and all its associated plugins (because I already have Podman, also some tooling mixes them up)
• VSCode (because I prefer other editors, including VSCodium)

So, I looked up the relative packages with rpm -qa | grep docker (and code respectively). And the command sudo rpm-ostree override remove code docker-ce seemed to run successfully.

However, those packages are listed as InactiveBaseRemovals under rpm-ostree status -v, and indeed after rebooting both tools are still in place. rpm -qa also still lists them as packages, so they're not just raw binaries dumped in /usr/bin.

I am confused, in the past I've only seen InactiveBaseRemoval when a package I had override-removed had been subsequently removed from the base image in the first place. What could be happening?

@inffy Thanks for the quick answer and for your work! I will keep an eye out for the new rechunker to land in the changelogs, I guess.

If you want to do those kind of changes, you should really think about rolling your own image. Much less overhead (as the packages are not actually removed with rpm-ostree)

I would recommend you to hide vscode with kmenuedit (menu editor) and disable the docker service
