📢 Version v0.1.1 (alpha) - New on-screen controls, mods, shader cache
🛑Your old on-screen layout from v0.1.0 is not carried over: after the update you start with the new default layout. Don't forget to backup your saves before updating.🛑
ℹ️ ValDroid was tested with Valheim 1.0.15, and that is where it works best — especially on Mali GPUs.
🙏 Special thanks
To all the testers who didn't spare their time testing the launcher — and especially to our Mali testers, whose logs are slowly teaching us how these GPUs behave! 💛
☕ Honest moment: ValDroid stays free, but coffee (and rent) doesn't. If the new version makes your Viking life a little better, you can buy me a coffee on Ko-fi. Thank you! 🪓
🆕 What's new
Main features
✅ New on-screen controls — a new controls system with a full editor: buttons (round or square, outline / filled / glass, your own pictures, toggle buttons, several keys on one button), d-pad, sticks, WASD stick, mouse stick, touchpad, scroll bar for the mouse wheel and a radial menu.
✅ Two ready-made layouts — Gamepad (the default: Valheim's own gamepad interface handles inventory, building and menus) and Keyboard and touchpad. Switch between them in the editor under Layouts.
✅ Controls editor — tap an element to change it, long-press an empty spot to add one, grid snapping, a screenshot as background to place buttons against. Layouts are saved per instance and can be exported and imported as a .zip.
✅ Mods — a new Mods screen in the side menu: turn on Mod support (BepInEx) for an instance, install mods from a .zip, switch them on and off, delete them. Needs Native ARM64 Mono. Not every mod works: very old mods may load and do nothing. Experimental.
Changed
✅ Shader cache — compiled shaders are kept on the phone, so a new enemy or effect stutters only the very first time you see it, not in every session. On by default; off by default on Mali GPUs (see Known issues). Settings → Video → Shader cache.
✅ Render resolution — lowest by default; the launch log shows what is actually applied.
Fixed
✅ Mali: the circles (moiré) on ground and object textures are gone.
✅ If Native ARM64 Mono could not start and the game fell back to emulated Mono, the launcher now tells you once.
✅ The downloaded game zip is no longer kept twice, freeing several GB.
✅ Bug reports include more information for us.
Known issues
ValDroid is only a launcher. To run the game, you need the Linux version of the game files — for example, the game bought on Steam.

📢 Version v0.1.0 (alpha) - Valheim on Android
🆕 What's inside
✅ Valheim runs on your mobile phone
ValDroid launches the Linux PC version of Valheim on Android. The game's own code runs natively on your phone's ARM64 processor, and only the Unity engine is emulated.
- Tested on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 8 Gen 3 and 8 Elite
- 60-70 fps on Low on a Galaxy S23+, 100+ on Very low on an S25 Ultra
- Still an alpha: expect rough edges and please send reports
- Not tested on Mali, we'll be glad to get Mali reports.
✅ MobileGlues renderer (default)
The game's graphics go through your phone's own GPU driver instead of Vulkan emulation, which gives roughly twice the frame rate on Snapdragon.
- Vulkan (Zink ZFA) stays available as a fallback in the instance settings
- Textures are compressed for your GPU on the first launch and cached, so later launches load faster
✅ Steam Downloads
Log in to Steam and ValDroid downloads the Linux version of Valheim straight into a new instance. You have to own the game on Steam. Your login goes only to Steam and is never stored. Confirm the login in the Steam Mobile app or with a Steam Guard code.
- Or install from a .zip of the Linux version (the Windows version won't run)
✅ Steam Cloud saves
Bring your PC worlds and characters to the phone and send them back
✅ Graphics profiles premade for emulation
- Very low is applied on the first launch, or pick Low in the instance settings. After that you can change the graphics in the game and your settings are kept. A button brings a profile back any time.
✅ Performance tools
- In-game display: off, FPS counter, or a full bar with GPU, CPU, RAM, power and temperature
- Frame-rate limit by mode: Economy ~30, Balanced ~40, Smooth ~60. The exact number is picked to fit your screen
- Balanced keeps the phone cooler and the frame rate steady in long sessions
✅ Controls
On-screen gamepad with sensitivity settings and a layout editor. Physical controllers work too. Long tap on the control opens it's configuration.
✅ In-app Wiki in four languages
- English, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese accessible via the ? button.
Requirements
- Android 11 or newer and a powerful phone
- Your own copy of Valheim, Linux version (if you own it on Steam, the app downloads it for you)
- About 10 GB of free space
- Internet during installation
Known issues
- The phone heats up in long sessions and the frame rate drops. Use the Balanced frame-rate mode
- The first launch takes longer while textures are compressed
- Mods are not supported yet
- Mali GPUs (MediaTek, Tensor) and Exynos have never been tested. Your report would be the first!
- Keyboard and mouse are not tested yet

ValDrod is only a launcher.
To run the game, you still need the actual game files (Linux version), which you must obtain yourself - for example, by purchasing the game on Steam.
