Trimming

Audio

Audio trimming is done within WaveLab Pro. Once a capture is complete, a new file will populate in the File Group within the current project. If the file you need to trim is not in the current project or is no longer open, File > Open will allow you to select the file from the Captures folder (see File Locations). Once the file is open on the timeline, do the following:

  1. Determine if the file is stereo or mono. WaveLab Pro always captures two audio channels, regardless of what is being input. Obviously, if one channel is empty, then it's mono. But there is also the chance, with our current equipment, that a mono track 1/4" audio reel has been captured. It will show two channels with identical content. To confirm it is truly mono, spot-check a few random places in the file and confirm that both channels fluctuate and move identically as it plays, because with a stereo recording, they will still appear to be very similar, but not truly identical.
    • If it is stereo, leave it as is.
    • If the file is mono, drag to select all of the single channel you want to keep, then right click and choose Copy Selection to New Window > Duplicate. This will create a new, single-channel file that you can work with.
  2. Trim off any silence at the beginning and end. Aim to leave a couple seconds of silence as a buffer. You can trim by selecting the portion you wish to delete, then hitting the delete key.
  3. File > Save As and save the file based upon our naming conventions in the folder for Completed Transfers (see File Locations).
