2.9.0: Delete whole modules, and fast, stable large deletes

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Oct 12:16
f4b5c77

Anaplan Toolkit 2.9.0 adds Structure › Delete Modules, lets the line item delete remove whole modules, and makes large deletes fast and stable: an 841-module, ~11,000-line-item run that used to take hours and crash the extension now goes in a few dozen requests.

New report

  • Structure › Delete Modules: upload a CSV of module name and module ID (the Modules report's own export works as is - keep only the modules to delete).
    • Check first - nothing is changed. A row is ready when its module ID and name agree with the model (or, with no ID, its name matches one module). A module is marked In use when a line item in a module that isn't listed uses one of its line items - or when a module that stays uses it - and is left alone, with who uses it.
    • Confirm by typing the number of modules. In use modules can optionally be tried as well.
    • One module per request, a module before the modules it uses. A module Anaplan refuses is kept with Anaplan's reason and tried again after others are deleted.
    • Live report, Pause / Resume, Save report now, and the number of calls made.

Improvements

  • Structure › Delete Items (was Delete) deletes a module in one request when every one of its line items is in the CSV and none is used from outside it - a new Modules tab lists them. The CSV can carry a Module ID column (the Line Items report exports it), checked against the module named. A refused module falls back to deleting its line items.
  • Much faster on large models: every applied request makes Anaplan send back the whole model, so requests now carry whole modules up to 200 line items instead of one module each (in the same planned order). A refusal whose line item can't be told is halved instead of sent one line item at a time.
  • The report shows calls to Anaplan (applied / refused) as the run goes.

Fixes

  • The extension no longer runs out of memory on long runs: each live update of a large report (10,909 rows) was being sent several times to every panel page, and the extension's process grew past 2 GB and died. Updates now go once, at most every 2 seconds.
  • Anaplan's replies to a delete (the whole model, tens of MB on a large one) are read without building the model in memory each time.
  • Reloading the extension mid-run now stops the run, instead of leaving it deleting with no way to stop it.
  • A line item refused in a module whose name has spaces ("Revenue Plan.Margin cannot be deleted…") is recognised, instead of the rest of the module going one line item per request.
  • A refused module delete (Anaplan answers it with serial 0) no longer costs a full re-read of the model.

Recommended use

  • Deleting changes the model and can only be undone from Anaplan's History. Try it on a development model first; with ALM, delete in Dev and sync to Production with a revision tag.
  • In use is read off formulas. Uses from saved views, pages, actions or processes aren't seen until Anaplan refuses the delete - the report then shows Anaplan's reason.

Permissions

  • No new permissions. downloads (optional, for auto-saving the delete report) and notifications (optional, Lock Monitor) are unchanged.

Install

  • Chrome / Edge: anaplan-toolkit.zip - unzip, then chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked.
  • Firefox 140+: anaplan-toolkit-firefox.zip - about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox → Load Temporary Add-on.

After updating, reload any open Anaplan tabs.

2.8.0: Delete line items from a CSV, planned from the formulas

Choose a tag to compare

@umang350 umang350 released this 06 Oct 13:18

Anaplan Toolkit 2.8.0 adds the first report that changes the model: Structure › Delete removes the line items listed in a CSV, across any number of modules, after checking every row against the model and planning the order from the formulas.

New report

  • Structure › Delete: upload a CSV of module, line item and line item ID (the Line Items report's own export works as is - keep only the rows to delete). Rows are numbered from 1.
    • Check first - nothing is changed. The model's structure is read from Anaplan itself, and a row is ready only when its ID, module and name all agree. Line items still used by a formula outside the CSV (or used by one that is) are marked In use and left alone, with the formula that uses them.
    • Confirm by typing the number of line items. In use rows can optionally be tried as well; they go last.
    • Planned order: one request per module, whatever its size. A module goes before the modules whose line items it uses, and within a request a line item before the ones it uses. Modules that use each other in both directions hold back only what is still needed, for a later pass.
    • Refusals: when Anaplan refuses a line item ("… cannot be deleted because it is in use"), that line item is set aside with Anaplan's reason, the rest of the module is sent again, and it is retried once other deletions free it.
    • Live report: each line item's status - Waiting, Deleted, Not deleted, In use, Skipped - updates after every request.
    • Pause / Resume between requests (one already sent is never cut short); Stop ends the run and reports what was not reached.
    • Saving the report: Save report now at any time, and optional auto-save to Downloads every 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes and when the run ends - one file per run, overwritten each time. The report so far is also kept in the extension while it runs, so closing the panel doesn't lose it.
    • After a delete, the Line Items, Modules, Filters and Line Items on Pages reports for that model are cleared, and the report asks you to reload the Anaplan page.

Tested live on a training model (219 line items across 24 modules, including formula dependencies between modules) and offline on a generated 700-module, ~11,000-line-item model.

Recommended use

  • Deleting line items changes the model and can only be undone from Anaplan's History. Try it on a development model first; with ALM, delete in Dev and sync the change to Production with a revision tag, so Production takes one change instead of hundreds.

Permissions

  • New optional permission: downloads, asked for only when you turn on auto-save in the delete confirmation. Without it, saving falls back to an ordinary download.

Install

  • Chrome / Edge: anaplan-toolkit.zip - unzip, then chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked.
  • Firefox 140+: anaplan-toolkit-firefox.zip - about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox → Load Temporary Add-on.

2.7.0: Pages › Line Items, formatting on hidden line items, large-model performance

Choose a tag to compare

@umang350 umang350 released this 05 Oct 12:11

Anaplan Toolkit 2.7.0 adds a report of every line item shown on chosen App pages, stops counting conditional formatting rules that Anaplan keeps on hidden line items, and makes large models usable: the Actions view is rebuilt and big tables no longer hang the browser.

New report

  • Pages › Line Items: pick App pages (grouped by app, then category; your choice is remembered per model) and see every line item their widgets show, and where: rows, columns, page selector, filter, formatting, sort or hidden. Saved views behind those widgets can be included (off by default, slower). Tabs: By Page, By Line Item, Pages Scanned.

Fixes

  • Filters › Conditional Formatting: Anaplan keeps a formatting rule after its line item is hidden from the grid, so those rules were reported as usage. They are now tagged Hidden on grid. A line item whose grid axis is filtered by data (often per user) is tagged Filtered: <line item> rather than reported as shown. The CSV gains an On Grid column.
  • Pages › Line Items counts a line item named only in such a rule as Hidden.
  • Sorting a column in Usages, Pages › Modules or SV Filters no longer keeps the browser busy re-sorting while the view is open.

Performance

  • Actions rebuilt: opens instantly on thousands of items, searches names and IDs, sorts every column, and copies an ID with one click. Same tabs, counts and CSV files as before.
  • Large tables: 400 rows are drawn at a time with Show more; search, sort and Export to CSV still cover every row. Search waits for a pause in typing.

Packaging

  • New store title and summary: Anaplan Toolkit – Model Audit & Documentation.
  • The Chrome package no longer shows manifest warnings on the extensions page.

Install

  • Chrome / Edge: anaplan-toolkit.zip - unzip, then chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked.
  • Firefox 140+: anaplan-toolkit-firefox.zip - about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox → Load Temporary Add-on.

2.6.0: Structure, Revisions and Lock Monitor

Choose a tag to compare

@umang350 umang350 released this 04 Oct 08:58

Anaplan Toolkit 2.6.0 adds three new report areas (Structure, Revisions and the Lock Monitor), process steps, workspace-wide storage, bulk gather and export, and column sorting in every table.

New reports

  • Structure › Modules: every module with its ID, dimensions, time scale, time range, line item and saved view counts, and the App pages that use it.
  • Structure › Line Items: every line item with its ID, format, applies-to, time scale and formula. Search also matches formulas.
  • Structure › Lists: every list with its ID, parent and item count, and every list property with its format and formula.
The Structure reports read Anaplan's in-page model data, so they make no extra requests (Modules also reads the App page list).
  • Actions › Steps: the actions each process runs, in order, with each import's source and target, plus the actions no process runs. Copy API call copies an Integration API curl for a process or action. The extension itself never runs anything.
  • Revisions: the model's revision tags (who created each, when and where), and every model each tag was applied to.
  • Lock Monitor: checks whether the model is Available, Updating, Busy, Locked or Offline at an interval you choose (every second up to every minute, for up to 12 hours), and names what is running when the model is busy. You get a timeline and every check, exportable to CSV. Runs are saved, and Refresh continues the same report. Optional notifications tell you when the model has been busy for 30 seconds and when it's free again.
  • Workspace › Current now shows deleted models (with purge date) beside Active and Archived.
  • Workspace › All: storage for every workspace you can access, and every active model across them.

Improvements

  • Summary › Get all data gathers every report that isn't loaded yet, one after another.
  • Summary › Download all as CSV saves every loaded report as CSV files in one .zip.
  • Sort any table by clicking a column header: ascending, descending, then back to the original order. CSV export follows the sort.
  • Large cached reports are compressed, so they survive the background worker idling out.

Fixes

  • Report views no longer stay stuck loading after Get all data.
  • Applies To no longer lists Time and Versions, which have columns of their own.
  • List properties are found reliably, and a parent of -1 (no parent) is shown blank.

Privacy and permissions

  • New optional permission: notifications. It's only requested if you tick Notify me on the Lock tab.
  • The Lock Monitor uses only your existing Anaplan session. It asks the model's status the way Anaplan's own screen does and, if that gets no answer, tries Anaplan's Integration API (api.anaplan.com, sent from the Anaplan tab) with the same browser login. It never asks for a token or password.
  • No analytics or telemetry, and nothing is sent anywhere other than Anaplan.

Install

The stores still have 2.5.0 until this update is published there:

To install 2.6.0 now from the zips below:

  • Chrome / Edge: unzip anaplan-toolkit.zip, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and click Load unpacked on the folder.
  • Firefox (140+): open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, click Load Temporary Add-on, and pick manifest.json inside the unzipped anaplan-toolkit-firefox.zip.

After updating, reload any open Anaplan tabs.

2.5.0: Rebuilt page filters, one panel per tab

Choose a tag to compare

@umang350 umang350 released this 03 Oct 10:07

Anaplan Toolkit 2.5.0 is available on the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons. It rebuilds the page filters report and fixes working with several models open at once.

Improvements

  • Pages › Filters, rebuilt. Each line item now appears beside the condition it's used in, and conditional formatting rules show their actual colours. Filters and formatting are on separate tabs, with search and CSV export like every other report.
  • More detail in SV Filters' rows.

Fixes

  • Multiple models in multiple tabs (Chrome). Each Anaplan tab now gets its own side panel, opened from the toolbar icon. Results, progress and loading states stay with the tab and model they belong to, instead of one tab's report showing up in another tab's panel.

Install

2.5.0 is published on both stores:

To load it unpacked instead:

  • Chrome / Edge: open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and click Load unpacked on the extension folder (or dist/ after running sh package.sh).
  • Firefox (140+): run sh package.sh, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, click Load Temporary Add-on, and pick dist-firefox/manifest.json.

Full changelog: 2.4.0...2.5.0

2.4.0: Firefox, Summary and grouped tabs

Choose a tag to compare

@umang350 umang350 released this 04 Oct 09:05

Anaplan Toolkit 2.4.0 adds Firefox support, a model Summary, two saved-view reports and a grouped tab bar. It also handles switching between models properly.

New

  • Firefox support (140+), from the same code and manifest. package.sh builds the Firefox package.
  • Summary: model name, IDs, size and structure counts, and which reports are loaded. The panel now opens on it.
  • Saved View › List: every saved view, grouped by module, with its ID.
  • Saved View › Items: line items used in saved views.
  • Grouped tab bar: reports are grouped as Actions, Pages and Saved View, with Usages moved under Actions.
  • Actions shows counts per object type in its tabs.

Improvements

  • Switching models. The panel follows the model in front, across tabs, window focus and navigation. Each model's results stay cached under their own key, so you never see another model's data.
  • SV Actions now resolves an import's source through its import data source definition, so more saved-view imports are named.

Changes

  • SV Filters and SV Items are switched off (shown greyed out and tagged Slow). Both have to open every saved view, and Anaplan evaluates each view's filters first, which takes tens of minutes on a large model. The ⌘⌥K shortcut is removed with them.

Install

  • Chrome / Edge: open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and click Load unpacked on the extension folder (or dist/ after running sh package.sh).
  • Firefox (140+): run sh package.sh, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, click Load Temporary Add-on, and pick dist-firefox/manifest.json.

Full changelog: 2.3.0...2.4.0

2.3.0: First release

Choose a tag to compare

@umang350 umang350 released this 04 Oct 09:05

The first release of Anaplan Toolkit: a Chrome side panel of reports on the Anaplan model in the active tab. (It was previously called "Advanced Anaplan Tool".)

Reports

  • Actions: internal IDs for processes, imports and files, for API integrations.
  • Usages: where actions are used across Apps and Pages.
  • Modules: which Apps and Pages use each module (backend → frontend lineage).
  • Filters: line items used as page filters or for conditional formatting.
  • SV Filters: line items used as filters in saved views, with the module each view belongs to.
  • SV Screens: which saved view each App page widget reads from.
  • SV Actions: imports whose source is a saved view. Only imports are scanned, and only views in the open model can be named.

Every report has a search box and exports to CSV. Results are cached per model for 6 hours, and the refresh icon gathers them again.

Keyboard shortcuts

In the Anaplan modelling UI (⌘⌥ on macOS, Ctrl+Alt on Windows/Linux): I / O open Actions & File IDs and Action Usages on the Actions tab, and Linked Pages and Page Filters on the Modules tab. K opens Saved View Filters.

Privacy

The extension only talks to your Anaplan host (springboard-definition-service and /jsonrpc), using your existing session. It has no analytics or telemetry. Results are held in session storage and dropped when the browser closes.

Install

Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and click Load unpacked on the extension folder.
