#Adding the Required Extension to Install and Update Extensions

NeverDecaf has created an extension to simplify this process. The extension's name is Chromium Web Store. The Chromium Web Store extension provides access to the Chrome Web Store, establishes a connection, facilitates downloading and installing/adding, automatically checks for updates, and makes updating extensions easy.

1. In Ungoogled Chromium, copy chrome://flags/#extension-mime-request-handling, paste it into a new tab, and press Enter. Set the extension-mime-request-handling setting to Always prompt for install. (Always prompt for install and relaunch: Always show a prompt for installation and restart)
   Then restart the browser.

2. Next, click the latest Chromium.Web.Store.crx link on the extension's Versions page. If the extension file does not download and you receive the Invalid Package: ‘CRX_REQUIRED_PROOF_MISSING’. warning, click OK. Then right-click on the updated Chromium.Web.Store.crx link and click the Save link as button. Then click the Save button, and the file will download. (You can also use this download method for other files with the .crx file extension. This is because Google may be blocking the download of crx files in Chromium.)

3. Click the ︙ button. Follow the path Extensions > Manage Extensions. The Extensions page will open.
   Or open chrome://extensions/ in a new tab. The Extensions page will open.
   Turn on Developer Mode. Drag the downloaded Chromium.Web.Store.crx file and drop it into the empty space on the Extensions page. A prompt asking “Add Chromium Web Store?” will appear. Click the Add Extension button. The extension will be installed/added. (You can use this extension installation method for other .crx files as well.)

4. Thank the developer of the extension, NeverDecaf, and other developers. Support them financially and morally by motivating them.

#Adding Extensions to Your Browser from the Chrome Web Store

1. Visit the Ungoogled Extensions website.

2. Visit the Chrome Web Store and search for an extension.

3. Copy the URL of the extension you want to download. For example, bitwarden URL: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/bitwarden-parola-y%C3%B6netici/nngceckbapebfimnlniiiahkandclblb

4. Paste the copied URL into the Extension URL box on the Ungoogled Extensions website.

5. Click the ︙ symbol. Then click the About Chromium button. Find out your Ungoogled Chromium version. For example: If it says Version 140.0.7339.80, your version is 140.

6. Click the Chromium Version dropdown next to Select your Chromium version. and select your version.

   Or click the auto-detect button. Make sure the auto-detect feature selects the correct version.

7. Click the Download button. You may need to wait a moment. Then, thanks to the Chromium Web Store extension, the extension will automatically download and do what is necessary to be added.

   A notification will appear asking, “Add <Extension_name>?”. For example: “Add Bitwarden Password Manager?”. Click the Add Extension button. The extension will be installed/added.

8. If the extension file does not download and/or you receive the warning Invalid Package: ‘CRX_REQUIRED_PROOF_MISSING’., click OK. Then right-click on the download link for the latest <extension_file_name>.crx file and click ‘Save Link As’. Then click the Save button, and the file will download.

9. Click the ︙ button. Follow the path Extensions > Manage Extensions. In the Ungoogled Chromium browser, open the chrome://extensions/ page in a new tab. If Developer Mode is not enabled, enable it.
   Drag the downloaded <Extension_file_name>.crx file and drop it into the empty space on the Extensions page.
   (For example, for Bitwarden: NNGCECKBAPEBFIMNLNIIIAHKANDCLBLB_2025_8_2_0.crx)
   The prompt “Add <Extension_name>?” will appear. (For example, “Add Bitwarden Password Manager?”)
   Click the Add Extension button. The extension will be installed/added.

#Adding Extensions Not Available in the Chrome Web Store

Some extensions are not malicious software, but they are not available in the Chrome Web Store due to Google restrictions. These extensions must be downloaded from the source and installed from a file with the .crx file extension.
For example, the TWP - Translate Web Pages extension is an extension that quickly translates pages using Google Translate. Follow the steps below to add extensions using this example:

1. Open the source website to download the extension's .crx file, then click the releases link. For example, TWP versions

2. Click the ︙ button. Follow the path Extensions > Manage Extensions. The Extensions page will open.
   Alternatively, paste chrome://extensions/ into a new tab and press Enter to open the Extensions page.
   Turn on Developer Mode.

3. Click the latest TWP_<version_number>_Chromium.crx link for the extension. If the extension downloads and you don't get an error message, the Chromium Web Store extension will automatically do what is necessary to add the extension, and a notification will pop up asking, “Add TWP - Translate Web Pages?” (“Add <Extension_name>?”) Click the Add Extension button. Your extension will be installed/added.

6. Thank the developers who create open-source extensions and support them financially and morally. For example, support the TWP project. Also support the TWP developer.

#Keeping Your Web Browser Up to Date

To keep extensions up to date, you must keep your browser up to date. If you did not install Ungoogled Chromium from a store, you will need to update it manually. To update manually, refer to the list below.

#Updating Extensions with the Chromium Web Store

1. Click the Extensions icon (the puzzle piece icon) in the top right corner.

2. Click the pin icon next to the Chromium Web Store extension.

3. Look for the pinned extension icon. If a new version of your extensions has been released in the Chrome Web Store, numbers indicating the number of notifications will appear on the extension icon. These numbers are white on a red background. They indicate the number of extensions that need to be updated. If there are extensions to update, proceed to the next step.

4. Click the Chromium Web Store extension button. The extensions that need to be updated will be listed.

5. Click on the names of the extensions one by one. You will need to wait a few seconds at this stage. It will download the latest version of the extension you want to update. If the extension downloads and you do not receive an error message, the Chromium Web Store extension will automatically do what is necessary to add the extension, and the message “Add <Extension_name>?” will appear. Click the Add Extension button. The latest version of your extension will be updated/added.

6. Once the extension is updated, the number of extensions to be updated displayed on the Chromium Web Store extension button will decrease and it will be removed from the list of extensions to be updated.

7. If you receive the warning Applications, extensions, and user scripts cannot be added from this website., click OK and repeat the steps under the heading Installing and Updating Extensions. In particular, repeat step 1 and remember to restart your browser.

8. If your extension is not in the Chrome Web Store and you downloaded and added it from another source, the Chromium Web Store extension will update your extensions. See

9. If your extension is not available in the Chrome Web Store and you downloaded and added it from another source, and the Chromium Web Store extension did not update your extensions, you can update your extension by following these steps:

9.1. Download the extension's .crx file from its source.

9.2. Click the ︙ button. Go to Extensions > Manage Extensions. The Extensions ( chrome://extensions/ ) page will open.
Or paste chrome://extensions/ into a new tab and press Enter to open the Extensions page.

9.3. On the Extensions page that opens, turn on Developer Mode.

9.6. Click the ︙ button. Follow the path Extensions > Manage Extensions. The Extensions (chrome://extensions/) page will open. If Developer Mode is not enabled, enable it. Drag the downloaded Extension_file_name>.crx file and drop it into the empty space on the Extensions page. The prompt “Add <Extension_name>?” will appear. Click the Add Extension button. The extension will be updated/added. (You can use this extension addition method with .crx files from extensions in the Chrome Web Store, as well as with .crx files from extensions not in the Chrome Web Store.)

That is just an individual user recommending it. When it comes to Ungoogled Chromium for Windows, the only recommended binaries are the official ones from https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-windows/releases.
