First public build of Universal USB Detector for Windows.
Plug in any USB device and instantly see what it actually is: USB 2 or 3, the speed it negotiated, how much power it asks for, and what kind of device it is. It also shows live charging status and can test whether a cable really carries data. Everything runs on your machine — nothing is uploaded, and there's no account.

Verify it before running, if you like:

You'll see "Windows protected your PC" from SmartScreen, and the publisher will show as unknown. That's expected: this installer isn't signed with a code-signing certificate, which is a paid certificate from a certificate authority. It says nothing about what the app does — only that we haven't paid a CA to vouch for us.
To install anyway: click More info → Run anyway.
If you'd rather not take our word for it, that's entirely fair — the source is right here, and you can build it yourself in a couple of commands, or check the SHA256 above against the file you downloaded.
Some managed/corporate Windows machines block unsigned installers by policy, in which case building from source is the way in.
What's in it
- Live device list — plug/unplug and it updates instantly
- USB version + negotiated link speed (with an honest "up to" when Windows won't report the real rate)
- Requested power draw, decoded from the device's own descriptor
- What the device is — storage, keyboard/mouse, camera, hub, and so on
- Live charging status and battery rate
- A cable tester, for working out whether a cable does data or only power
