Release list
Meeting transcript archives — August 2026
Plain-text transcripts of Connecticut municipal meetings — the primary source
behind every report in this repository. One .zip per town, one text file per
meeting, plus a MANIFEST.txt in each archive stating its own coverage.
97 towns · 34,592 meeting transcripts · 727 MB
Filenames are stable (<town>-meeting-transcripts.zip) and are replaced in
place as each town's backlog fills, so a link to one keeps working and keeps
returning the current archive. This release tag is the dated snapshot.
Redaction
Connecticut public comment opens with a ritual: the speaker gives their name,
then their home address, for the record.
The names are as spoken. 43,081 home addresses have been replaced with
[address redacted].
Addressing a public body is a public, accountable act, and stripping names
would gut the record. A home address is different. Individually those addresses
are public and sit on the town's own video, but these archives are a different
artifact from a four-hour recording nobody watches: searchable, sortable and
downloadable in bulk. Pooling name-and-home-address pairs at this scale is
the same aggregation this project objects to when a camera vendor builds it.
Some of the speakers are children.
Addresses being discussed rather than lived at — where a camera sits, which
property is before the commission — are untouched, because that is the evidence.
So is "I live in West Hartford", which is how a speaker establishes standing.
The town's own recording remains the unredacted record of the same meeting.
Coverage
Coverage is partial and varies enormously by town. The percentage below is
the share of that town's known meeting videos that have actually been
transcribed; meetings never recorded or never captioned are in neither number.
A topic's absence from a town's transcripts is not evidence the town has not
discussed it.
These are machine transcriptions of automatic captions, not official minutes.
They contain mis-hearings and dropped audio. Quote the video, not the text —
each town's report links every finding to the exact second of the recording.
