@user-github-me user-github-me released this 03 Oct 06:09

LocalPulse AI v1.1.0

Free and open source under the MIT license. This release is built from tested commit b0ad66749cdbdc37e495fd99d37cdbe383656908, merged into main through PR #11 at 757d3c9a30409891e07a3bf83f1541348a67284f. The merge contains the same source files. This GitHub release does not update the Chrome Web Store listing.

New in v1.1

  • Optional one-choice email tracking setup, separate Gmail/Outlook draft images, per-draft toggles and local estimated-read badges.
  • Private image names, opt-in generic notifications, an encrypted service test and password-encrypted tracking backups.
  • Saved local research collections, full-text search and validated import/export; fresh cloud consent for reopened sources.
  • Verified quotation excerpts with actual source context and extracted PDF page numbers.
  • Local image/scanned-PDF OCR in seven languages and local English audio transcription, after explicit model-data downloads.
  • Duplicate tab review, confirmed closing, local saved sessions and optional Chromium domain grouping.
  • Explicit typed-query web research and selected public sources.
  • 24 quick actions, document workspaces, improved local history, flashcards, installed-voice read-aloud and local follow-ups.
  • OS and configured-shortcut hints; fixes for fresh-install startup, media-model readiness and unassigned shortcuts.

Downloads and installation

Chrome: unzip localpulse-ai-1.1.0-chrome.zip; in chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the folder containing manifest.json.

Signed CRX: localpulse-ai-1.1.0-chrome.crx uses the existing project signing key and matches the ZIP files byte for byte. Local testing uses the ZIP. Store items opted into Verified CRX Uploads use the CRX; standard uploads use the ZIP.

Firefox: unzip localpulse-ai-1.1.0-firefox.zip; use about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox → Load Temporary Add-on → manifest.json. Temporary add-ons are removed after restart. This package is not Mozilla-signed.

Reviewer source: localpulse-ai-1.1.0-sources.zip contains the rebuild inputs and dependency lockfile.

Graphics and store material: localpulse-ai-1.1.0-store-assets.zip contains five 1280×800 screenshots, promo tiles, icon and submission notes. Images use synthetic data and identify example responses.

Verification: test-report.md, github-ci.json, firefox-lint.json and SHA256SUMS.txt.

Tracking privacy

Tracking never sends email subjects, bodies, recipients or private names. Private keys and decrypted results stay in the extension or password-encrypted backups. The separately connected public service queues encrypted image-request timestamps without expiry and deletes those exact events after local saving and signed acknowledgement.

Public service · Service source and policy · Release privacy policy

Hosting providers handle network metadata under their policies. Images may be blocked, cached, preloaded or requested by proxies/scanners; counts estimate image activity and cannot prove human reading, delivery or unique people. Free hosting and queue limits apply.

Validation and limits

264 unit tests, 7 tracking-service tests and 68 Chromium browser tests passed. Real OCR recognized an image and a two-page PDF; OCR and Whisper reopened with download hosts blocked. A separate real WebLLM GPU test generated a local summary. A live Vercel/Upstash synthetic event was encrypted, decrypted and deleted by signed acknowledgement. GitHub CI passed.

Authenticated Gmail/Outlook layouts, every cloud provider account, real Windows/Linux browsers and a Firefox profile were not exercised. Firefox builds with zero static-validation errors and 17 documented warnings. See the full limits in test-report.md.

v1.0.1 — A fix release: privacy edge cases, a safer Replace, and better results in other languages

A fix release: privacy edge cases, a safer Replace, and better results in other languages. No
permissions changed.

Fixed

  • Replace selection writes only over the text the answer was written from, on the same page,
    and keeps the spaces and line breaks around it. It refuses if a hidden detail couldn't be put
    back into the text.
  • Hidden details come back in answers: emails, phone numbers and card numbers that a cloud
    provider saw as placeholders show their real values in the answer, on this computer only, but
    never inside a link. Follow-up questions hide them again.
  • Privacy:
    • switching on Local-only mode or a never-send site during a request stops it, and follow-up
      questions use the never-send list as it is now;
    • local files and pages of unknown origin always ask before going to the cloud, and saved
      consent doesn't let answers about them go along with later questions;
    • never-send rules written as ".bank.com" work, and blob: pages count as the site that made
      them;
    • earlier answers don't go to an endpoint whose server address has changed;
    • more details are hidden:
      • emails in any script (Cyrillic, Devanagari, Khmer, accented names), with "_" in the name,
        stuck to Chinese, Japanese, Thai or Khmer text, or in the addresses of several tabs;
      • phone numbers written with dots (415.555.0132), in italics, two to a line ("030 1234567 /
        030 7654321"), right next to Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hebrew or Arabic words, in full-width
        or Bengali digits, and Chinese mobile numbers written without spaces;
      • card numbers after a dash or another number, and every card in a run of numbers;
      • ISBNs aren't taken for phone or card numbers;
    • Firefox: follow-up questions also need the website-content permission.
  • Right-click and shortcut actions read the page even when a file is open in the panel, keep
    their tab and selection for Try again and "Continue in", and aren't lost when two arrive
    together.
  • Languages:
    • the built-in summarizer is used for the languages it writes; for others, the built-in model
      answers instead, and a browser with only the summarizer gives an English summary, as before;
    • translations use the browser's translator when the built-in model can't write the language,
      and say why, naming the languages, when nothing can translate the text;
    • lists and quotes in Arabic or Hebrew answers read right to left.
  • Checked quotes: numbers must match ("1.5" isn't "15"), while the kind of dash or minus sign
    and the page's quote bars and list bullets don't count. Quotes inside quotes stay whole; mixed
    straight and curly marks, German and French quote marks, quoted email replies and quoted lists
    are read; Hebrew abbreviations aren't taken for quote marks, and Japanese titles and short terms
    aren't checked as quotes. Show on page finds a quote by the page's own wording.
  • Questions about long pages find sections that use a word with an apostrophe ("user's").
  • Requests that were too large are retried with smaller parts for the summarizer and translator
    too.
  • Answers keep code and tags that only look like LocalPulse's internal page wrapper.
  • Wording: word counts in the consent dialog, the hand-off steps (you paste the question), and the
    Settings notes on history and site access.

@user-github-me user-github-me released this 30 Sep 07:08

First release.

At install, LocalPulse asks only for the permissions listed in the README; site access and the tabs
list are optional and requested when a feature needs them.

Added

  • Side panel. Chat about the current page, with quick actions: Summarize, Key points, Explain
    code, Simplify, Action items, Translate and Compare.
  • AI providers, most private first:
    • the browser's built-in model, summarizer and translator (Chrome, Edge);
    • Ollama, LM Studio and llama.cpp;
    • in-browser models (WebLLM: Llama 3.2 1B and 3B, Qwen 3.5 2B);
    • OpenAI-compatible cloud APIs with your own key (Gemini, OpenRouter, Groq, Mistral, Hugging
      Face, OpenAI, custom).
  • Privacy:
    • consent before any page goes to a cloud provider;
    • the provider is shown on every answer;
    • Local-only mode and never-send sites;
    • emails, phone numbers and card numbers in the page hidden before it goes to the cloud;
    • follow-up questions take earlier answers to a cloud provider only from pages allowed for it.
  • Long pages read in parts; questions answered from the most relevant sections.
  • More content:
    • PDFs (open in a tab or dropped into the panel);
    • YouTube transcripts;
    • GitHub files and pull requests;
    • several tabs at once.
  • Right-click actions on selected text, with Proofread and Rewrite that can replace the text in
    the page's field.
  • Checked quotes: quotes in answers are looked up on the page, and missing ones are flagged.
  • Continue in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity: the question is copied and the site
    opens; you paste it and press Send.
  • Custom quick actions, with import and export, and a community pack.
  • Local history with Markdown export; tables download as CSV.
  • Everywhere: light and dark themes, translatable interface, and a Firefox version (without
    in-browser models).
