Visual C++ 2010 is a very old compiler and supports mainly C89 only. C99 is supported only partially. The cause of the error messages you experience is that Visual C++ 2010 can't handle variable declarations that are not placed at the beginning of a block.

I don't intend to make the code compatible with C89. Instead I will remove the Visual Studio solutions for versions below Visual C++ 2015 with the next release.

Visual C++ 2015 and above will compile the code without problems. Therefore I strongly recommend you to upgrade your compiler.
