Universal Binary - Runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

What is Simmer?

Simmer is a minimal macOS menu bar app for passive log monitoring with visual feedback. Watch log files for patterns and get subtle icon animations (glow, pulse, blink) when matches occur.

  • Configure regex patterns with custom colors and animations
  • Menu bar icon animations at 60fps
  • Recent matches menu (10 most recent with timestamps)
  • Full pattern CRUD in settings UI
  • Export/import configurations as JSON

  • Minimal resource usage (<1% CPU idle, <50MB memory)

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0+ (Sonoma or later)
  • Universal binary: Intel (x86_64) and Apple Silicon (arm64)

Installation

  1. Download Simmer-0.1.0.dmg
  2. Open the DMG and drag Simmer to Applications
  3. Launch Simmer from Applications
  4. Click the menu bar icon → Settings to configure patterns

Known Limitations

This is an early development build:

  • Test coverage at ~64% (target: 70%)
  • No remote log monitoring
  • No custom icon sets
  • No notification center integration
