Just got my x3 today and after installing cross point v1.4.0.1 via SD card, the screen is frozen here. Anyone encountered something similar and knows how to fix this? Thanks.

You both must have the newer display panel. I had confirmation from users that the crosspoint version I posted worked on the new display. Unless those users didn't actually have the new display, you should be able to sd flash the latest crosspoint 1.5 rc2 to get your display back. Sd flashing is all you can do and unfortunately you'll have no idea if it's on or working so do a reset, follow the sd flash button combo instructions, and be patient

You wont know that it's reset. It won't show any visible signs of that working because the display isn't running

I did the following, downloaded crosspoint 1.5 rc2 and transfeered into my SD and rename update.bin. Try to reset the device by pressing the top left button shortly, followed by holding the power button for a few seconds. After that I hold the left side button and the power button for at least 30 seconds. Still not happens.

For a deterministic blind flash, put firmware.bin in the SD root and ideally use a clean SD card with no directories. The picker includes directories even though it hides non-BIN files.

Assuming default front-button mapping:

1. Start from full sleep (Hold power button long enough for it to sleep. Connect to PC and you should hear the usb disconnect to tell you this happened)

2. Press and hold the left-side page button. (Button 1 in diagram)

3. While holding it, press and hold Power.

4. Hold both for about 5 seconds.

5. Release the left-side button first, keep holding Power for another second, then release Power.

6. Wait 10 seconds for recovery mode and the file picker to initialize.

7. Press and release the bottom-edge Confirm button once

8. Wait 30 seconds while the BIN is validated.

9. Press and release the bottom-edge Confirm button once (Button 6 in diagram).

10. Flashing now begins. Do not press buttons, remove the SD card, or interrupt power for at least 2 minutes. It will restart automatically when complete.

The short version is:

Hold LEFT-SIDE + POWER wait CONFIRM CONFIRM wait for automatic restart

• If root directories remain on the card, the BIN is not necessarily initially selected. Directories sort before files. With X visible root directories, press the right- side page button Y times before the first Confirm.

To be safe, you should be able to flash this stock x3 bin. You do not need to rename it. https://files.sofriendly.com/NLYnK1Cp

Button 6 is the confirm button.

There was a line incorrect at the confirmation step. It probably wouldn't have made a big difference though in actuality. Having some kind of confirmation that the device is booting at all is definitely key here. Either blind navigate to the hotspot feature or try doing screenshots. The display not powering on wouldn't render the device completely dead, just not visibly working

Pre-condition:

1. delete all the data in the sd card, copy this bin https://files.sofriendly.com/NLYnK1Cp in to the sd card, no need to rename. insert it back.
2. let your device sleep (like leave it 1 hour alone)

Steps:

1. Press and hold the Button 1 While holding it, press and hold Power (button 3)
   Hold both for about 7 seconds.
   Release the button 1 first, keep holding Power for another second, then release Power.
   OR (Release the Power first, keep holding button 1 for another second, then release.)

2. Wait 30 seconds for recovery mode and the file picker to initialize.

3. Press and release the Confirm button once (button 6)

4. Wait 2 mins while the BIN is validated.

5. Press the button 8

   Flashing now begins. Do not do anything in this time. I repeat do not do anything. Pray !

7. Leave it there. I leave it there for like 5 mins.

8. Check if it's alive. if not, Hold power for 5 seconds, wait for 5 min.

9. If not alive, press Reset (button 2), then press and hold Power for 5 secs, wait for 5 mins.

10. If not alive, leave it for 30mins, do your job, make s*x, make a coffee ... Then restart from step 1 when ever you're cool.

You probably don't need to wait the hour as mentioned in this post, but waiting a few minutes just to let things finish isn't a bad idea.

One user also mentioned in step 1, that they needed to release the power button (Button 3) before releasing Button 1, so try that if these steps don't work.

Step 6's instructions say to press button 6, but on some devices it might be button 8. If you are able to take a screenshot (simultaneously press button 3 + button 4 and then let go, similar to how you do it on phones) at this step and the image shows up on your SD card, you'll be able to confirm what your button layout is.

To clarify, are you supposed to do this while the screen is still stuck displaying "Update completed automatic restart in progress"? and while it is being plugged via USB? It's so difficult to tell if the device is even powered or not.

You will not ever see the screen update until it's fixed. The display is what's not working. Crosspoint is actually running though. What you're doing in these steps is "powering on the device into the sd flash menu". You won't "see" it work. I'm trying to figure out a way for someone to know it's on but it's so dang hard on these locked units and so hard for me to even replicate on my end without one.

I think the original flow has a bad step in it. Once you've clicked the confirm button to select the firmware, click the next page button (button 8) to confirm

So, as we find out, it is really different confirm dialogs, screenshot is really helpful to find out and track you current state, maybe understand what you are doing wrong, etc. (power + upper right button for screenshot, try different pressing intervals + try changing sleep state with power button)
Use stock firmware
You should follow previous guides but to confirm .bin after validation just press button 8 (see screenshot)

Try pressing buttons few times, I feel like it doesn't work every time with first press (for selecting and confirming)
Take more time each step be calm, flashing really takes more time and use Reset button to fast restart your try without waiting 10+ mins

Thank you everyone for the support and updates. I can confirm that this additional step was what revived my X3 (yes, the China locked model). So to reiterate from @itsthisjustin @leductho911 / jackfruit2010 from the Discord server:

1. Reformat your SD card to FAT32 / exFAT (I used the former)
2. Download this .bin file and place it in the root, no need to rename: https://files.sofriendly.com/NLYnK1Cp
3. Insert the SD card into your X3 and wait a few minutes to make sure it's sleeping
4. Refer to the image, press and hold Button 1, simultaneously hold Power (Button 3). Hold for about 7 seconds. Release Button 1 first then hold Button 3 for another second, and then release it.
5. Wait 30 seconds for recovery mode / file picker to initialize. You won't see anything on the screen, but it should certainly be on.
6. Push the Confirm button (Button 6) once.
7. Wait 2 minutes.
8. Push Button 8, then push Button 6.
9. Wait another 2 minutes.
10. Push Button 6 again. This is when my display came back, but if it doesn't, wait 3 minutes and push Button 8 / Button 1

I've also managed to get Crosspoint running using the latest release. Thanks to @vddq in the Discord for clarifying:

rename it to update.bin and place to sd card root
press left and power button > it updates and works
