Release list
bigtty 0.9.0
New
- Agent notifications in Needs You. Notifications from agents in a pane now reach bigtty. They show up in Needs You under "Messages", in the Dock badge and on the space line, and as a macOS notification unless you're looking at that pane. Looking at the pane clears the entry, and dismiss/undo work as usual.
btty notify [--title T] <message>. Any agent or script running in a pane can ping you this way. The agent skill now tells agents about it, and to keep it for when they're blocked, need a decision, or have finished a long task. Re-run bigtty ▸ Install btty and Agent Skill… to update the skill.- Claude Code hook:
btty hooks install claude. Inside herdr, Claude Code doesn't recognise the terminal and sends no notifications. This adds aNotificationhook to~/.claude/settings.jsonthat forwards them withbtty notify. Other hooks and settings are kept, the previous file is backed up first, and running it again changes nothing.btty hooks status claudeshows whether the hook is set up, andbtty hooks uninstall clauderemoves only bigtty's entry. - Terminal bell and desktop notifications (OSC 9/777) from a pane go to the same place, for when herdr passes them through.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.8.0
New
- Find in any pane (⌘F). One find bar for terminal, browser and file panes, with a match count, ↑/↓ (or Return/⇧Return, ⌘G/⇧⌘G) to step through matches, ⌘E to search for the selection, and Esc to close. In a terminal it searches the whole scrollback, not just the screen (needs a recent herdr). Edit ▸ Find now works in terminals too.
- Reload (⌘R). View ▸ Reload reloads a browser page, or re-reads the open file and tree in a files pane, locally or over SSH. The files toolbar gets a ↻ button. In a terminal, ⌘R still goes to the terminal.
- Reconnects when the network comes back. When the network returns, switches interface (Wi-Fi to Ethernet, VPN up) or the Mac wakes from sleep, remotes that are down retry right away instead of waiting out their backoff.
Fixed
- Needs You shows one steady entry per unreachable host. A host with several sessions used to fill Needs You with identical "Can't connect" rows that flickered on every retry and forgot being dismissed. Now there is one quiet row per host, ranked below waiting agents, showing how long the host has been unreachable; dismissing it sticks until the error changes. Retries back off further (up to every 5 minutes).
- Dragging a top-row pane no longer moves the window. Dragging a pane by its handle, or selecting text near the top of a top-row pane, could move the whole window instead. The grip is also a bit taller and its handle shows only while the pointer is over it. The window still moves from the gap above the panes and the top of the sidebar.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.7.1
New
- Jump to spaces and tabs from the Window menu. The Window menu now lists the session on screen under its own header ("This Mac · work") and puts every other session and machine in a submenu ("devbox · main"). A space with several tabs also lists them as "api › logs", up to 8 per space. What needs you shows as a badge. Menu search (Help ▸ Search, or Spotlight's menu actions) finds a space or tab by name, and picking one only takes you there.
Fixed
- Searching the menus for a space no longer moves your pane there. Pane ▸ Move Pane To used to list every space by name, so a menu search for a space could offer "move this pane there" first: you landed in the space with your pane carried along. Pane ▸ Move Pane To… now opens the same picker as ⌘K ▸ Move Pane to… (hold ⌥ to stay where you are).
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.7.0
New
-
Needs You. With many sessions and spaces, it's now easy to see what's waiting on you. A section at the top of the sidebar lists it across every machine and session, most urgent first:
- a login that needs your approval or sign-in
- agents asking something you haven't seen yet
- agents still waiting on an answer
- machines that can't be reached
- agents that finished while you were away
Within each group, whatever has waited longest comes first. Click a row to go there, or click the header to collapse the section. ⇧⌘K opens the whole list. ⌘⌫ or the × on a row dismisses an item until its state changes, and ⌘Z brings it back.
Fixed
- Tailscale SSH approvals. Each connection now shows its own approval link. Before, every session on the host showed whichever link came last, so the one you approved wasn't always the one waiting.
- Files on Tailscale SSH Macs. ⌘-clicking a file on such a machine opens the file instead of an empty "Select a file" pane.
- Crash when a remote's shown session stopped. This crash was introduced in 0.6.3.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.6.3
New
- Sessions on machines connected over SSH. A remote machine used to show only one herdr session. Its sidebar row now has the session switcher This Mac has: switch between its sessions, start a stopped one, or create one. Its running sessions stay connected in the background, so their agents still notify you, and ⌘K finds their spaces.
- Hold ⌘Q to quit. A quick ⌘Q shows a hint instead of quitting, so a slip of the keyboard doesn't close bigtty. Quit from the menu or the Dock still quits at once.
Fixed
- Only one bigtty runs at a time. Opening a second copy (say, a build Spotlight found) brings the running one to the front instead of opening a second set of windows.
- Keycaps no longer clip the tail of letters like Q.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.6.2
Fixed
- Panes stay readable when your terminal theme and macOS's light/dark setting disagree (a dark theme with macOS in light mode, or the reverse) (#1):
- The files pane's text follows the theme instead of macOS, so it's no longer black on a dark theme or pale on a light one.
- Unfocused panes fade toward their own background instead of going see-through, which washed them out.
- Light themes with translucent terminals: dark text no longer turns white (the contrast boost is now off in that case).
- Git status colors in the files pane are readable on light themes: modified files no longer show in pale yellow.
- bigtty no longer leaves empty
default.profrawfiles in project folders. Earlier releases were accidentally built with coverage instrumentation.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.6.1
Fixed
- Files and browser panes on long paths or URLs now open correctly from another Mac. herdr keeps only the first 80 characters of a pane tag, so a files pane on a deep path (or a browser on a long URL) came back cut off on any bigtty that rebuilt it from herdr, such as one connected over SSH. It then showed an error instead of the file. Long values are now kept whole.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.6.0
Needs herdr 0.9.2 or later.
New
- Pin and unpin from herdr itself. The pins plugin adds a Pin or unpin pane action to herdr's command palette, so you can pin without bigtty. Pins made in herdr and in bigtty are the same: either one can unpin them, and unpinning puts the pane back beside the pane it was pinned from. You can also bind the action to a key in herdr's config:
Install or update the plugin where herdr runs (needs
[[keys.command]] key = "prefix+p" type = "plugin_action" command = "bigtty.pins.toggle"
gitandpython3):herdr plugin install v1k45/bigtty/herdr-plugin/pins
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.5.1
Needs herdr 0.9.2 or later.
New
- Pins follow you in herdr's terminal UI too, with the new herdr plugin: switch space or tab in herdr and your pinned panes move in as a column on the right, the same as in bigtty. Install it where herdr runs (needs
gitandpython3):herdr plugin install v1k45/bigtty/herdr-plugin/pins
Changed
- bigtty moves pins only when you switch in bigtty, so it doesn't pull back pins that herdr's terminal UI (with the plugin) or another Mac just moved.
Install
brew install --cask v1k45/tap/bigttyTo update: brew update && brew upgrade --cask bigtty. Needs herdr: curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh.
bigtty 0.5.0
Needs herdr 0.9.2 or later.
New
- Pinned panes follow you. ⌥⌘P (Pane ▸ Pin Pane, or ⌘K) pins a pane: whichever space or tab you switch to, it's there as a full-height column on the right. Pin a dev server's logs, a
localhostpreview or an agent you're watching. Several pins stack in the column; drag its divider to set the width. 📌 marks a pinned pane. ⌥⌘P again puts it back beside the pane it was next to. Pinning moves the pane in herdr, so herdr's own UI and your other Macs see it too. - Spring-loaded spaces. While dragging a pane, hold it over a space or one of its tabs in the sidebar: it blinks and opens, and you keep dragging to drop the pane exactly where you want it, beside a pane or along an edge of the whole tab.
Details
- A pane moved to another space keeps its live terminal, with no reconnect flash.
- Switching spaces quickly moves pins once, when you settle; zoomed tabs are left alone.
