Rebar Studio 1.0.0 beta 3

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Oct 07:29

The third beta of Rebar Studio. It moves to the reb engine v0.5.0, the version the engine will freeze as 1.0; nothing else changes.

Templates

  • Table formulas handle negative values. qty*rate with a rate of -4 used to give -4 whatever the quantity, and a-b with a negative b subtracted instead of adding. Formulas now follow the usual rules (2*-4 is -8). A formula that does not make sense, such as unbalanced brackets, gives 0.
  • Answers print as typed. A comparison such as {{if eq .dept "R&D"}} or {{if eq .contractor "O'Brien"}} now holds when that is the answer. HTML typed into a text field shows as text instead of formatting the document; text areas still become paragraphs, and {{safeHTML .name}} still prints an answer as (sanitized) HTML.
  • Printing an answer as {{.Answers.name}} no longer warns that the field is never printed.
  • The preview formats {{formatNumber .Number 2}} as 1.00.

The engine's full list is in its changelog.

Rebar Studio 1.0.0 beta 2

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Oct 06:31

The second beta of Rebar Studio. It changes how updates work; nothing else.

Updates

  • You decide. With Update automatically on (Settings > Updates, on by default), Studio checks when it starts, downloads a new version in the background and installs it when you quit. Turn it off and nothing is downloaded: Check now tells you about a new version, and you choose to download it and to restart into it.
  • Betas follow the betas. A beta of Studio now looks for the next beta even with the Stable channel chosen, and moves to the stable version when it is released.

Coming from beta 1

Beta 1 looks for updates on the Stable channel by default, where there is nothing yet, so it does not find this version by itself. Either download this version below, or in beta 1 choose Settings > Updates > Channel > Beta and click Check now. From beta 2 on, updates find the next beta by themselves.

Rebar Studio 1.0.0 beta 1

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Oct 06:16

The first beta of Rebar Studio: a free, offline app to write .reb form templates, fill documents from them, and finalize them to a locked PDF. No account, no server, no network: everything stays on your device.

What you can do

  • Write templates with a live preview of the printed page, completions, and the engine's errors and warnings marked in the editor. Start from a blank page or one of ten construction starters: permit to work, site diary, inspection checklist, snag list, handover certificate, price estimate, toolbox talk, material delivery, request for information, equipment inspection.
  • Fill documents: text, dates, choices, tables with computed totals, photos, and signatures drawn with a mouse or finger. Show-if conditions, formulas and required answers are checked as you type, with autosave and undo.
  • Finalize a document to a locked PDF with its SHA-256 fingerprint; reopen it as a revision when something changes.
  • Export PDFs one by one or in batches, a template's register as CSV or JSON, and share templates (.rebpack) and documents (.rebdoc). Back up and restore the whole workspace (.rebbackup).
  • Learn from the built-in reference, with live examples, the full .reb specification, and a guide to hand to an AI assistant.

Templates print the same in Studio and in Rebar: Studio runs the same reb engine (v0.4.1) and makes its PDFs with the same parameters.

This is a beta: keep backups of work that matters (Settings > Storage and backups). Problems and ideas are welcome as issues.
