Ventic 0.5.5

Three things that looked like the app ignoring you: a search box that swallowed
the OK button, a cast that spun until it gave up, and a download that played and
was then forgotten.

Fixes

  • Search fields answer the remote. Pressing OK on a search or address field
did nothing at all. Opening the field takes away the button the press landed
on, and Ventic read focus falling to nowhere as focus leaving — so it closed
the field a tick before it could open, and on Android the keyboard never came
    up with it.
  • The cast settings can be reached with a remote. This device is called
and the pairing code sat under a transparent target of exactly the same size,
so every press aimed at them landed on something that could not take focus.
  • Casting starts the film instead of spinning. Picking a device now waits
for the network scan to actually be down, not merely asked to stop: the
probes already in flight were the ones competing with the television opening
its connection, which is why pressing Play the moment the dialog opened
behaved differently from waiting for the list to fill. And the receiving
screen now gives the stream the patience it gives its own downloads — it was
being timed like a debrid link and allowed fifteen seconds, while waking a
film up across the network took ten on the first request alone. A cast that
was working was routinely called dead.
  • Playing from the Downloads page counts. A film started there was a bare
magnet: it played perfectly and was then forgotten — no progress, no History,
no Continue watching. It now plays as the title it was downloaded for, and
inside a season pack the right episode is recorded rather than none at all.

Also

  • The Google Play copy and the download from ventic.tv are now built
separately, because the store forbids an app it ships from installing an APK.
Nothing changes on your side: the copy from ventic.tv still updates itself,
and a Play install is updated by Play.
  • 0.5.4 was that build change and nothing else, and was never published — this
    release is 0.5.3 → 0.5.5 for everyone.
