Verbia 1.0 — beta
First public build. Select text anywhere on macOS, press ⌥G, and it's rewritten in place.
This is a beta and it is not notarized yet. macOS will refuse to open it on the first try —
see Installing below. Apple Developer enrolment is in progress; the 1.0 release will be signed
and notarized and this step will disappear.
Free while in beta. Please report anything odd —
open an issue.
Installing
- Download
Verbia.dmg, open it, drag Verbia to Applications. - Launch it. macOS will say it "cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious
software." Click Done. - Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to
the message about Verbia. Confirm.
Control-click → Open is unreliable on macOS 15, so use the Privacy & Security route above.
Requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
First run
- A menu-bar icon appears. There is no Dock icon — Verbia is a menu-bar app.
- Grant Accessibility when prompted. This is what lets it read and replace selected text in
other apps; nothing works without it. - Open Settings → AI and either switch on Ollama or paste an API key for one provider.
- Select text in any app and press ⌥G.
What's in it
- 7 built-in actions — fix grammar, improve, professional, friendly, shorten, expand, translate
- 38 templates to start your own from — polite decline, chase a reply, commit message, bug
report, executive summary, extract action items, formal Arabic, fit a tweet - Voice dictation — press ⌥D, speak, press ⌥D again. Transcribed, cleaned up, and typed
at your cursor - Your own AI account — Ollama (fully local), Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Qwen, OpenRouter, or
any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (Groq, Together, xAI, Mistral, LM Studio, vLLM…) - Keys live in the macOS Keychain. No analytics, no telemetry, no account
Known issues
- Voice dictation needs macOS Dictation switched on. If it fails, turn it on at System Settings
→ Keyboard → Dictation and add your language. Verbia falls back to Apple's servers automatically
when no on-device model is installed, and tells you when that happens. - Not notarized, so the install has the extra step above.
- Licence purchasing isn't live yet. The beta runs without one.
