Features

• Buffer.from accepts runtime string encodings. Native string conversion preserves encoding defaults and aliases, with catchable validation errors.

Performance

• Filesystem reads and typed-array processing do less copying. File reads use owned storage directly, while typed-array conversion, copying, and filling avoid unnecessary intermediate work.
• Collections and object properties use storage more efficiently. Array construction and mutation, stable sorting, string-keyed Maps and Sets, and wide object lookup reduce repeated allocation and traversal.
• JSON, regular expressions, and string operations scan and allocate less. Shared scans, batched output, and reused byte and character positions streamline parsing, serialization, replacement, normalization, and navigation.
• Native values and compiler queries avoid repeated work. Safe borrowing, local tagged storage, direct collection reads, reused source metadata, and batched checker requests reduce temporary wrappers and ownership traffic.

Internal improvements

• Compiler code has clearer responsibilities and consistent source tooling. Builtin, conversion, function, container, and native build code is organized into focused modules, with shared contracts and oxlint/oxfmt checks for normal JavaScript and TypeScript sources.
