Summary

Why does pnpm dev fail on a fresh clone (I used this command: git clone --depth 1 --single-branch), and does the development.md documentation need to be updated to recommend running pnpm build first? Because if I run pnpm dev directly, an error appears in my terminal:

And after I ran pnpm build and then pnpm dev, the process ran normally.

Yes — this is expected on a fresh clone. In this monorepo the dev task for the next package (and others like @next/font) depends on the built dist output of sibling packages, which doesn't exist yet on first clone. Running pnpm build once resolves it, as you found. Would be worth a PR updating development.md to mention running pnpm build before the first pnpm dev on a fresh clone.
