First release. Planets are divided into cells of the aperiodic hat monotile tiling, separated by narrow unbuildable bands.

Because the tiling never repeats and every cell rounds onto Factorio's square grid differently, no two cells are the same shape — so imported blueprints stop working. Measured over 1,156 cells at the default settings: 624 distinct buildable shapes, none covering more than 1.1% of the map.

Installing

Download hattorio_0.1.0.zip below and drop it in your mods folder:

  • Linux ~/.factorio/mods/
  • Windows %APPDATA%\Factorio\mods\
  • macOS ~/Library/Application Support/factorio/mods/

Then enable it in the in-game Mods menu and start a new game — bands are painted as chunks generate, so an existing save keeps vanilla ground where it has already been explored.

Defaults

Cell size 41 (normal) and band width 3, per planet, both chosen by playtest. Smaller cells are harder; 15 / 4 is offered but close to unplayable and warns you on load.

Bands are animated dark liquid in deep violet by default. Underground belts and pipes tunnel beneath them, rails cross them, and power and bots ignore them — but nothing can be built on one.

Known limitation

Single player only for now. The multiplayer determinism argument is sound — the tiling uses only correctly-rounded IEEE operations, no sin/cos/pow — but it has never been verified with two clients. Please don't rely on it in multiplayer until that's tested.

Requires

Factorio 2.0 or later. Space Age is supported but not required.
