v0.1.0-alpha.2
Pre-release
Pre-release
Immutable
release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
The second pre-release of flux, an open-source media server for personal movie and TV libraries, written in Rust. It fixes two bugs in v0.1.0-alpha.1 and completes the third-party licence notices in the packages.
This is an alpha. Expect bugs and breaking changes between releases, and keep backups of anything you point it at. Read the Feature status and prototype gaps first.
What changed since alpha.1
- flux-server exits promptly on SIGTERM. In a stress test of 2,000 stops, v0.1.0-alpha.1 hung in about 7% of them: it logged
flux stoppedand then waited until its supervisor killed it (docker stopafter 10 s, systemd after 90 s). The catalog was already committed, so no data was at risk. - Plain-text logs under systemd and Docker. flux now colours its log only when stderr is a terminal, and honours
NO_COLOR.journalctlanddocker logsno longer show colour codes. - Complete
THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES. It now includes:- jemalloc's licence, which v0.1.0-alpha.1 left out;
- other notices found in crate sources;
- the web client's notices;
- the licences of all 36 Go modules in the bundled Tailscale sidecar.
- Release checks. CI now also smoke-tests the Intel macOS package (under Rosetta 2) and the arm64 Docker image. It also fails a release whose binaries need a newer macOS than the one stated below.
Install
Packages are for macOS and Linux:
- macOS, Apple Silicon or Intel: macOS 11 or later. Embedded Tailscale access needs macOS 13 or later.

The steps, including running flux as a service and upgrading from alpha.1, are in docs/INSTALL.md.
- You need ffmpeg and ffprobe. The packages don't include FFmpeg. Install it with your package manager (e.g.
brew install ffmpeg), then runflux-server --check. - Docker:

shasum -a 256 -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS. Then check its build-provenance attestation withgh attestation verify flux-0.1.0-alpha.2-<target>.tar.gz --repo vibecook-dev/flux --signer-workflow vibecook-dev/flux/.github/workflows/release.yml.
