Troubleshooting and Recovery
Start by protecting the project. If the editor still responds, download a .figureloom backup before trying destructive fixes.
Try these in order:
- Wait for the loading screen to finish once.
- Reload the tab.
- Close duplicate FigureLoom tabs.
- Check the network connection.
- Disable aggressive content blocking for the site temporarily.
- Open the browser console only if you are comfortable reading errors.
- Try a current version of another supported browser.
Do not clear site data before downloading local project backups.
A service worker or browser cache may still have an old build.
Try:
- Close every FigureLoom tab.
- Open a new tab to figureloom.org.
- Reload once.
- Wait for the stable build to finish loading.
- On a phone, fully close and reopen the browser if necessary.
If the project is important, download a backup before changing site storage or service-worker settings.
Check:
- The correct browser and browser profile
- The correct device
- The local project gallery
- Open project tabs
- Recovery snapshots
- Download folders for
.figureloombackups - Cloud gallery if the project was explicitly saved there
Local projects do not automatically follow an account to another device.
- Wait for assets to finish loading.
- Check Pages for another active page.
- Check whether layers are hidden.
- Zoom out.
- Use the navigator.
- Check recovery snapshots.
- Import the latest project backup into a new project.
Do not overwrite a cloud project with a blank state until the cause is understood.
Large images, workbooks, or imports can make saving slower.
- Stop making changes for a moment.
- Wait for the save indicator.
- Download a backup when the project becomes responsive.
- Remove unused large assets later.
- Avoid closing the tab during the save.
On Desktop and Tablet, Undo and Redo sit beside Delete in the selected-object action group. On Phone, they remain in the compact header.
Some actions create several internal changes. Undo may step through them separately.
If the result is unclear:
- Stop editing.
- Download a backup.
- Use a named checkpoint or recovery snapshot.
- Reload only after confirming that the current state has been saved or backed up.
- Select it in Layers.
- Unlock the layer.
- Show the layer if hidden.
- Hide a covering transparent object.
- Bring the object forward.
- Exit Hand mode.
- Zoom in.
- Check whether the layer is locked.
- Check whether several objects are grouped.
- Clear multi-selection.
- Confirm that the drag begins on the object.
- On a phone, open Edit and change X or Y to test the object.
Canvas zoom should scale the real page without creating false page area.
If the page looks wrong:
- Return to 100 percent.
- Close and reopen the project.
- Confirm that browser page zoom is normal.
- Switch to Desktop or Tablet, then back to Phone.
- Reload the current app build.
The passive guide, export screen, and phone sheets should keep actions above the safe area and bottom dock.
If a control is still covered:
- Rotate back to portrait.
- Close the browser keyboard.
- Scroll inside the dialog, not the page behind it.
- Close and reopen the dialog.
- Reload to get the latest layout fix.
Report the device, browser version, orientation, and a screenshot.
- Resize the text box width deliberately.
- Check for a long unbroken URL or code string.
- Use a code window for code.
- Replace unusual spaces copied from another application.
- Let imported fonts finish loading.
- Close and reopen the project if an old cached text renderer is still active.
- Recreate the text object only when pasted formatting itself is corrupted.
Do not repeatedly resize a text box while the page is still loading.
- Confirm that the drag starts on the text object rather than inside active text editing.
- Press Escape to leave text editing, then drag again.
- Return browser zoom to normal.
- Close duplicate editor tabs.
- Reload once after downloading a project backup.
Desktop text movement should follow the pointer and complete one normal render when released.
The original font may be missing.
- Import the local font again when permitted.
- Choose a bundled font.
- Check every line break.
- Avoid relying on a device-only font for shared projects.
- Check the layer visibility.
- Check project asset diagnostics.
- Reload after the save completes.
- Reimport the original file.
- Open a project backup to see whether the asset was embedded.
Simplify the SVG in the source application.
Common troublemakers include:
- External style sheets
- Unsupported filters
- Complex masks
- Embedded fonts
- Linked images
- Advanced clipping
- Scripted SVG
Try exporting a plain SVG with embedded styles and no scripts.
- Reopen the chart source.
- Compare values with the original table.
- Check decimal separators.
- Check category order.
- Recalculate workbook formulas before importing.
- Confirm that the object is editable rather than a flattened image.
- Check the source slide size.
- Check missing fonts.
- Simplify SmartArt, WordArt, animations, and complex groups.
- Import critical slides as SVG or images when exact appearance matters more than editability.
The current finished export panel is centered on editable SVG and .figureloom backups.
Use:
- Editable SVG (per page) for the active page
- Export all pages as SVG for the whole project
- Print page dimensions when physical SVG dimensions matter
Convert a checked SVG in another trusted application when another output format is required.
- Check the browser download list.
- Allow downloads for the site.
- Wait for a large all-pages export.
- Check device storage.
- Try Editable SVG (per page) on one page.
- Reload after downloading a project backup.
- Confirm the project page count before exporting.
- Wait until the export finishes before switching tabs.
- Check that the download contains one SVG per page.
- Open the first, middle, and last SVG.
- Retry after removing unused large assets when the project is extremely large.
Use the close control. On a phone, Back to editor should remain visible above the safe area.
- Confirm that you are signed in.
- Check the network connection.
- Check whether the project is owned or shared with edit permission.
- Download a local backup.
- Retry once after the connection returns.
- Do not create many repeated cloud copies while diagnosing the issue.
- Confirm the exact email address.
- Confirm that the recipient signed in with that address.
- Check the assigned role.
- Ask the owner to remove and recreate the invitation when necessary.
- Confirm that the owner is signed in and the project is saved to the cloud.
- Confirm that the link has not expired or been revoked.
- Enter the optional PIN exactly as supplied.
- Use a display name.
- Confirm that anonymous authentication is enabled for the deployment.
- Create a new guest link instead of repeatedly testing a damaged or expired one.
Close and reopen FigureLoom to load the current collaboration layout. Both controls should remain in the same horizontal row.
If they still stack, report the device, browser width, and a screenshot.
Choose deliberately between the remote update and local state.
Before choosing, download a backup of the local state when possible. If both versions contain useful changes, preserve both and merge manually.
- Sign in first.
- Open the exact cloud project that should be authorized.
- Open Settings → MCP & AI access.
- Press Connect or Reconnect FigureLoom.
- Keep the matching project tab open.
- Confirm that the client supports a remote MCP server address.
The connection is read-only. Reconnect with Full editor access.
Destructive actions still require the separate permission switch.
- Keep the project tab open until the command reports success.
- Confirm that the project save indicator completes.
- Reopen the same cloud project, not a different local copy.
- Check Undo history and the latest project state.
- Revoke and recreate the connection if it belongs to another project.
Successful write commands use the normal FigureLoom history and durable save paths.
- Use a simpler structured prompt.
- State stages and direction.
- Confirm the selected provider.
- Try the deterministic helper.
- Check provider availability.
- Remember that the ordinary editor works without Loomy.
The current guide keeps Close, Back, and Next in a sticky action area.
If an old cached guide still covers the controls:
- Close all FigureLoom tabs.
- Reopen the site.
- Reload once.
- Rotate the phone to portrait.
- Close the on-screen keyboard.
- Stop editing.
- Download the current project if possible.
- Record the project name, device, browser, and time.
- Open recovery snapshots.
- Restore the newest known-good snapshot into a separate project.
- Compare it with the damaged state.
- Import the latest external backup if needed.
- Save the recovered project under a new name.
- Download a fresh backup.
Include:
- What you expected
- What happened
- Exact steps
- Device and operating system
- Browser and version
- Interface mode
- Portrait or landscape
- Whether the project was local or cloud
- A screenshot or short recording
- Whether it happens in a new empty project
Do not attach confidential project files publicly. Create a minimal example when possible.
