Status: Stable, functional, ultra-minimal
TorFrog v1.7.0 – Nuclear Minimal Build
This version represents the first stable, fully–featured, ultra-compact release of TorFrog, a tiny BitTorrent client built on top of libtorrent-rasterbar, written in C++20 with a focus on minimalism, portability, and extremely small binary footprint.
Highlights
- Fully functional BitTorrent client in ~15 KB, using dynamic linking and aggressive compiler/linker optimization.
- High-performance, flicker-free ASCII TUI with progress bar, ETA, speed metrics, peers count, and sparkline graphs.
Major Engineering Changes
- Replaced all standard output with raw
write()system calls (no<iostream>, no streams). - Removed exceptions, RTTI, unwind tables, and heavy C++ runtime features.
- Eliminated
<filesystem>,<deque>, and other size-heavy standard library components. - Dynamic string concatenations removed from the render loop; replaced with fixed-size stack buffers.
- Implemented fixed-size history buffer for download-rate sparkline (zero allocations).
- Consolidated screen rendering into a single atomic write per refresh cycle.
UI and UX Improvements
- Strict ASCII-only interface (no Unicode glitches on any terminal).
- Stable fixed-width progress bar with percentage and ETA.
- ASCII sparkline for real-time download trends.
- Color mode can be toggled (
--no-color). - Screen clearing can be toggled (
--no-clear). - Sequential download mode enabled by default (
--seq/--no-seq).
CLI Features
-
Magnet links and
.torrentfiles supported. -
Customizable:
- download directory (
--save) - rate limits (
--max-down,--max-up) - bar width (
--bar-width) - tracker disabling (
--no-trackers)
- download directory (
-

Optimized Build Pipeline
Aggressive size-oriented flags, including:

Result
TorFrog v1.7.0 achieves:
- extreme binary compactness,
- no dynamic allocations in the rendering path,
- a clean, stable UI,
- full libtorrent functionality,
- and remarkably low CPU and memory usage.
