explainroo v0.1.0
First release.
explainroo lets your coding agent make narrated explainer videos and product demos. You tell the agent what the video should explain. It writes the narration and a bit of JavaScript that draws each scene, and explainroo turns them into an MP4 on your own computer.
What is in it:
- A local voice (Kokoro, 28 voices) and word timing (Whisper), so pictures appear when the voice names them. No account and no API key.
- Five looks: paper, clean, chalk, blueprint and midnight.
- Sizes for YouTube, Shorts, TikTok, Reels, Instagram and LinkedIn, with captions for vertical and square videos.
paceto make a whole video quicker or slower.- Product demos:
s.uidraws an app's screens again in its own colors and fonts, with a cursor that clicks and types. - Checks an agent can use without watching: stills, contact sheets, a layout check and a speech check of the final mix.
The videos attached here were made with explainroo. Their sources are in examples/:
explainroo-intro.mp4: explainroo in 86 seconds (paper look)unspar-demo.mp4: a product demo for Unsparhow-dns-works.mp4: how DNS finds a website (chalk look)merge-vs-rebase.mp4: git merge vs rebase (midnight look, vertical with captions)
More examples, including unofficial demos of Gmail, ChatGPT and Claude, are on https://www.explainroo.com/videos/
Get started: point your agent at this repo, or clone it, run npm install and node bin/explainroo.js doctor --fetch, then ask your agent for a video. It is developed and tested on Linux; macOS and Windows should work but have had less testing.
