OpenBox 1.14.0 — The library grows up

Six big upgrades that make your library smarter, more personal, and ready for the couch. Everything still runs 100% locally — no account, no cloud, no telemetry.

What's New

  • Plugins 2.0. OpenBox is now extendable. Browse a plugin catalog, install with one click, and approve permissions the way you would on your phone — each plugin asks for exactly what it needs, and updates ask again. Plugins can add library sources, settings pages, and command-palette commands.
  • Effortless metadata. Import a game and OpenBox fills in the blanks itself: it previews the match offline, then — only if you opt in — identifies it by ROM hash via ScreenScraper and IGDB, and pulls artwork from LaunchBox and SteamGridDB. Every search result now has a thumbnail picker, and each game shows a "Time to beat" card.
  • Backlog management. Your library is now a real backlog. Track Unplayed / Playing / Finished, rate games 0–5 stars, log playtime, and keep dated notes — OpenBox can even offer "Mark as Playing?" the first time you launch something.
  • Couch-ready Big Box. Boot straight into Big Box from Settings, search with a d-pad-friendly on-screen keyboard, and enjoy one smooth gamepad loop on every screen. Steam-bridged games now show their grid artwork too.
  • Library health score. One 0–100 score for your whole collection — file integrity, duplicates, artwork, metadata, launch readiness. Every deduction names its games, and a "Fix all" queue walks you through repairs with a dry-run preview first (every fix undoable). There's a health tile right in Big Box, plus a new Artwork Doctor, missing-file repair wizard, and duplicate merging.
  • Game DNA search. Search that understands what you mean, fully offline. Flip the Title | Smart toggle and try "cozy farming" or "short horror" — in five languages. Every result explains why it matched, and "More like this" surfaces similar games from the details pane, card menu, or Big Box. No AI cloud, no downloads.

Fixed

  • Big Box pause overlay trapped gamepad users. The pad kept driving the grid behind the overlay — A launched the highlighted game, B killed Big Box mode. The overlay now owns the pad while it's open.
  • Attract mode crashed the party. It could start over the Big Box pause panel and the Game Night overlay. The guard is restored.
  • Pause overlay crashed on games without documents. Opening it for a game with no attached documents no longer crashes.
