ViolinNext Beta v0.1 Build 2

A self-hosted network operations platform for device monitoring, infrastructure visibility, and incident investigation.

Highlights

  • Read-only SNMP v1/v2c/v3 monitoring and interface diagnostics.
  • Hardware telemetry where supported by device MIBs.
  • Ping, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TCP, and custom SNMP OID sensors.
  • Syslog fault classification for device-reported loops, MAC flapping, storm-control conditions, error-disabled ports, and link-down reports.
  • Suspected-loop correlation using repeated MAC moves and high broadcast rates on the mapped interface. This supports investigation; it is not independent confirmation of a loop.
  • Per-port broadcast, inbound error, and link-state warnings with repeat suppression.
  • IP/MAC lookup, MacTrack, network topology, WeatherMap, and PDF reporting.
  • Custom access roles, TOTP authentication, audit logs, and notification integrations.

Installation

Linux x86_64 with Node.js 22+, systemd, and glibc 2.36+ is required.

Debian / Ubuntu:

sudo apt install ./violinnext_0.1.0~beta.1-2_amd64.deb

Fedora:

sudo dnf install ./violinnext-0.1.0-0.beta.1.2.x86_64.rpm

Open http://127.0.0.1:3840 on the installed machine. Obtain the initial administrator setup code with sudo violinnext setup-code. No default account is included. Configure HTTPS reverse-proxy access before sharing the service with a team.

Verify before installation

Signing fingerprint:
70B2F33BB11B5C967073C57C649D9109AC9AA517

Compare this fingerprint with a separately trusted maintainer announcement before importing the key.

gpg --show-keys --with-fingerprint VIOLINTVEX-PUBLIC-KEY.asc
gpg --import VIOLINTVEX-PUBLIC-KEY.asc
gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS

Download every file listed in SHA256SUMS for the full checksum check. Debian users can additionally verify the detached package signature:

gpg --verify violinnext_0.1.0~beta.1-2_amd64.deb.asc violinnext_0.1.0~beta.1-2_amd64.deb

RPM users can verify the embedded signature after checking and importing the release key:

sudo rpmkeys --import VIOLINTVEX-PUBLIC-KEY.asc
rpmkeys --checksig --verbose violinnext-0.1.0-0.beta.1.2.x86_64.rpm

RPM, Debian, and checksum-manifest signatures were verified locally. All manifest checksums passed. The signed release notes and verification record predate manifest signing; their earlier “manifest unsigned” wording is superseded by this verified signature status.

Validation and scope

89 backend tests, frontend lint/build and HTTP smoke checks passed after implementation. Extracted DEB and RPM payloads passed application startup and API smoke checks. Full hardened systemd boot, Build 2 distribution-level upgrade checks, physical-device compatibility, and enterprise load acceptance remain unverified. Release as a pre-release and validate in a test environment before production rollout.

Back up /var/lib/violinnext and /etc/violinnext together before upgrading. Monitoring does not automatically disable ports or change device configuration.
