Highlights
Resume and recovery
- Conversations use schema v2. Each one saves its workspace, task, terminal, tool, model, project memory, verification, and checkpoint state. The previous valid save is kept as a recovery backup.
- Agent file edits create bounded pre-edit checkpoints. You can restore one with one click from Sessions.
- Sessions can be searched, renamed, pinned, exported, and imported.
- Older chat context gets a local rolling summary. Project memory refreshes from repository metadata and instructions.
Safety and security
- Risky tools use native approval dialogs, and approval prompts show the full shell command in a scrollable window.
- The main process blocks agent writes outside the open workspace.
- Decrypted provider keys stay in the main process. The UI only learns that a key is saved.
- Gemini image analysis sends the API key in a request header.
- Packaged builds no longer read
.env.localfrom beside the executable. SetVD_AGENT_ENV_FILEfor an explicit path.
Archive workflows and diagnostics
- New ZIP inventory and extraction tools with path, symlink, overwrite, entry-size, and total-expansion protections. Extracted files can be rolled back with a checkpoint.
- The agent inspects every archive source and produces traceable, schema-checked CSV instead of merging incompatible records.
- Opt-in local diagnostics export with runtime metadata and aggregate health counts. It leaves out keys, chats, filenames, workspace paths, and source code.
- Local persistence uses unique atomic temp files and serialized writes per conversation.
Models and providers
- Provider and model routing learns locally from success, failure, task type, and latency, with cooldowns for providers that keep failing.
- When a provider has strong models, tiny fallbacks are skipped in favor of another strong configured free provider.
- Replies from Groq and OpenRouter are tighter. Provider-native and bare-JSON tool calls run, generic deflections and false context denials get one corrective retry, and action narration is removed.
- Unofficial proxies are gone from the catalog, including gpt4free, ChatGPT-to-API, and Discord-run resellers. Saved settings drop those entries on load.
- New installs default to the Ollama model
qwen2.5-coder:7b. Existing settings keep their current model.
Team Mode
- Adaptive Team Mode in normal chat runs Analyst, a tool-enabled Executor, an evidence-based Reviewer, one bounded repair pass, and a final Verifier. Specialists can use different configured free providers. Only the Executor can change the workspace, and Stop works between roles.
Tools
- Removed tools that only returned setup steps:
web3_deploy,web3_contract,web3_ipfs,comfyui_workflow, and the Runway/Kling video options. Wallet balance and explorer lookup remain.
Updates, builds, and docs
- Update checks and controls are built in, and the cross-platform release workflow is aware of code signing. Dependencies are upgraded to Electron 44, Vite 7, and Electron Builder 26, with zero known vulnerabilities.
- Tagged releases publish Windows, macOS, and Linux installers plus
SHA256SUMS.txteven without signing secrets. - The Monaco editor bundle is smaller.
- The terminal docs match the app: PowerShell on Windows, bash on macOS and Linux.
- Building from source requires Node.js 22.19 or newer.
- The evaluation suite has 81 golden cases, including 20 real-user prompts. The release gate is at least 302 unit tests and 49 Electron smoke checks. Hosted eval JSONL export is opt-in and never uploads by default.

Unsigned installers
These installers are not code-signed or notarized, so you may see a warning:
- Windows: SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.
- macOS: Gatekeeper may block the app on first launch. Right-click VD Agent in Applications and choose Open, or allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Linux: make the AppImage executable with
chmod +x VD-Agent-1.1.0.AppImage.
Verify your download
Compare your file's SHA-256 hash with the value in SHA256SUMS.txt. That file lists the build's original file names, which contain spaces, for example VD Agent Setup 1.1.0.exe. GitHub shows those names with dashes. The hash is what matters.
- Windows (PowerShell):
Get-FileHash .\VD-Agent-Setup-1.1.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256 - macOS:
shasum -a 256 VD-Agent-1.1.0-arm64.dmg - Linux:
sha256sum VD-Agent-1.1.0.AppImage
If the hash doesn't match, delete the file and download it again.
