Notchy is not working in google chrome #35

try to relaunch you Notchy, because it works on mine |

Sorry for the slow reply. I'd like to pin this down rather than guess, because "can't use Notchy while Chrome is in front" has a few quite different causes and they have different fixes. The most common one: Chrome running full screen. Notchy ships with "Hide in Full Screen" on, so over a full-screen window the pill is deliberately ordered out of the Space — that's the setting working, not a fault. It's in Settings > Appearance, and there's a scope option ("All apps" vs "Media apps only") next to it. Worth knowing, if that is what you're hitting: v1.0.172 (out now) fixes a related bug where closing the panel over a full-screen Space handed the foreground to another app and pulled you out of full screen. Updating is worth doing before anything else — Notchy > Settings > About > Check for Updates, or If it isn't full screen, could you tell me:
Answer 2 is the one I most need: a pill that isn't drawn and a pill that ignores the mouse are separate bugs — the first is window ordering, the second is hit-testing. |

I relaunched the app but after new bugs started. I wasn't using chrome at
full screen. Just on chrome I had the problem. After relaunch bug
disappeared but as I mentioned new bugs started. For example screen was
switching by itself.. after I deleted Notchy.

The most common one: *Chrome running full screen*. Notchy ships with
"Hide in Full Screen" on, so over a full-screen window the pill is
deliberately ordered out of the Space — that's the setting working, not a
fault. It's in Settings > Appearance, and there's a scope option ("All

Worth knowing, if that is what you're hitting: *v1.0.172* (out now) fixes
a related bug where closing the panel over a full-screen Space handed the
foreground to another app and pulled you out of full screen. Updating is
worth doing before anything else — Notchy > Settings > About > Check for
Updates, or brew upgrade --cask notchy.
If it isn't full screen, could you tell me:
1. Is Chrome full screen, maximised, or a normal window?
2. Does the pill not *appear* at all, or does it appear and not
respond to hover/click?
3. Does it come back the moment you switch to another app, or does it
need a relaunch (as @SHASHASHA-code <https://github.com/SHASHASHA-code>
found)?
4. macOS version, Mac model, and Notchy version?
Answer 2 is the one I most need: a pill that isn't drawn and a pill that
ignores the mouse are separate bugs — the first is window ordering, the
second is hit-testing.

Thanks for coming back with the details, and I'm sorry the app ended up causing you trouble. The screen switching on its own is most likely a bug fixed in v1.0.172. When the panel closed, Notchy handed focus to whichever app came next, and when that app was on a different Space, macOS switched you over to it. Notchy now only gives back focus that it took itself, so closing the panel leaves you where you were. If you'd like to try again, the latest version is 1.0.179 ( |

Hey, I still didn't try out the new version but I would like to give some
advice about my user experience. Old versions of notchy was better and more
simple. I know you want add new features but mostly people want use it to
make things simple. I remember when I relaunch Notchy, all of the settings
and notchy was even to much for me. I will tell my experiences when I will
use it. Thanks.

The screen switching on its own is most likely a bug fixed in *v1.0.172*.
When the panel closed, Notchy handed focus to whichever app came next, and
when that app was on a different Space, macOS switched you over to it.
Notchy now only gives back focus that it took itself, so closing the panel
leaves you where you were.
If you'd like to try again, the latest version is 1.0.179 (brew install
--cask notchy or notchy.dev). If you'd rather not, that's completely
fine, and in that case could you close this discussion? If you do try again
and anything comes back, post here and I'll look into it.

Thank you for saying this. It's useful feedback, and I think you're right. Notchy has gained a lot of features quickly, and most people install it to make their Mac simpler, not to learn a new app. If you try it again, there's a setting that brings back the old, simpler Notchy: Settings > Appearance > Enable Minimalistic UI. It keeps only the tabs you pick, hides the extra buttons in the header, and makes the pill and panel smaller. Your other settings are left as they are, so you can switch it off again at any time. You can also type a word into the settings search box instead of scrolling through every page. I'm also taking your point about the first launch seriously. A new user shouldn't be greeted with everything at once. I'd like the default setup to be calmer and to let people turn on the rest when they want it. Whenever you get to try it, I'd really like to hear how it goes, especially which parts felt like too much. That's the kind of detail that helps me decide what to hide by default. Thanks again. |

1.0.190 is available with further panel focus, wake recovery and background responsiveness fixes. I tested hovering, opening, interacting with and closing the panel while Chrome was the foreground app, checking that focus and the current Space were preserved. Those checks passed in native and simulated-notch layouts. That is local coverage, not confirmation of your original Chrome failure. If you decide to try it again, update from Settings > About > Check for Updates. Minimalistic UI remains available if you prefer the smaller interface. If the unwanted Space switch or unresponsive panel returns, tell me the action immediately before it happened. I agree that the existing workflow should feel reliable and simple. |
|
Your point about complexity helped shape Notchy 1.0.191: My Setup now brings daily tools, quick actions and alerts together, and a fresh install starts quieter. Existing choices are preserved, so you can turn off what you don't use; Minimalistic UI is still available. This release also includes further wake/unlock and input-handling reliability work. Chrome interaction/focus/Space checks pass locally, but that doesn't confirm your original failure is gone. If you try it again, I'd like to hear whether Chrome remains usable and whether any unwanted Space switch returns. No need to reinstall just to test if you'd rather leave it for now. |
|
Notchy 1.0.193 adds wake and interrupted-Peek recovery alongside the earlier focus corrections. The inactive-app checks passed with Chrome in front, including opening/closing the panel, using its controls, restoring Chrome focus and staying on the current Space. This does not confirm your original hardware failure, so the thread stays open. If you choose to try it again and the panel stops responding or switches Spaces, please name the action immediately before it happened and your Mac/macOS version. Minimalistic UI remains available for the smaller interface you preferred. |
