DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.18-favorites
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.18-favorites
A small experimental update to the order of mapsets in Discover.
- Every Discover category, in Cards and List, now lists your mapsets first: installed
favorites, then other installed mapsets, then favorites you have not installed yet, then the
rest. Inside each group the order stays chronological (release date, then title). - Marking or unmarking a favorite, or finishing an install, moves the mapset to its new group
right away and keeps the focus on it. - In the Favorites category, removing the focused favorite now moves the focus to the next
card (or the last one, or the Favorites chip when the list becomes empty) instead of leaving
it on a card that is no longer shown. The same applies after unfavoriting on the mapset page. - Nothing about downloads, verification, profiles, saves or launch arguments changed.
- AppStream and binary versions are both 0.0.18.
Install or update the signed Flatpak through doomdecklauncher.com:
flatpak update --user com.doomdecklauncher.DoomDeckLauncherThe GitHub assets provide the Linux x86_64 tarball and its SHA-256 checksum. IWADs are never
included, and DSDA-Doom is downloaded from its official upstream at runtime.
The ordinary offline test suite, the category and favorites journey and the Linux CI checks
passed. Headless Chicken still crashes with DSDA-Doom 0.30.1 on Linux until an engine release
contains dsda-doom#1050. Physical Deck checks
for this order (DF1–DF2) are in
the Deck checklist.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.17-discover
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.17-discover
A small experimental update to browsing in Discover.
- The category strip now stays fixed at the top of Discover while you scroll, in both Cards and
List view, so the open category is always visible. Mapsets scroll beneath it and the focused
card or row is always shown in full. Choosing another category returns the list to the top. - Discover cards are more compact: 340 px tall instead of 410 px, with a taller screenshot and
the tags on a single row of smaller chips. When two tags do not fit, only the first one (the
open category) is shown. Library cards and List rows are unchanged. - Nothing about downloads, verification, profiles, saves or launch arguments changed.
- AppStream and binary versions are both 0.0.17.
Focused UI tests and the full Linux test suite passed. Headless Chicken still crashes with
DSDA-Doom 0.30.1 on Linux; the fix is proposed upstream in
dsda-doom#1050 and needs a new engine release.
Physical Deck feel of the pinned strip and the readability of the smaller tags are not validated
yet; the manual checks (PD1–PD3) are in
the Deck checklist.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.16-path
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.16-path
A small experimental update that shortens the folders DDL creates for installed mapsets.
- Install folders used to be named after the whole release citation, so a mapset could live in
a path like.../headless-chicken/RC1 2023-12-09, RC14 2026-01-19 (readme, day-first date); idgames archive file dated 2026-02-02/free/HDLSCHKN.wad. The folder is now a short label
derived from the release, for example.../headless-chicken/RC1-2023-12-09/free/HDLSCHKN.wad.
Plain version labels such as1.23keep their existing names. - Nothing about downloads, verification, profiles, saves or launch arguments changed. The
shorter folder is created by a new install. - After updating, mapsets installed by an older build are not migrated: uninstall and install
the mapset again to get the short folder. This build has no other player-visible change. - AppStream and binary versions are both 0.0.16.
Focused library tests and the ordinary Linux CI checks passed. This build exists to test on the
Steam Deck whether a shorter install path changes the Headless Chicken crash that the owner
reported at DSDA-Doom 0.30.1; that result is not known yet. Physical Deck validation of local
content and recipe variants from the previous release is still pending, and the manual checks
are in the Deck checklist.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.15-local
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.15-local
This experimental Steam Deck update brings the reviewed local-content improvements and clearer
recipe controls to both the GitHub tarball and the signed Flatpak from the same source commit.
- Adding local content is responsive: choosing a folder now lists files without hashing every
byte, and the selected files are identified only when you confirm them. A long listing can be
cancelled, and the app remembers the last usable folder. - A missing custom-setup file can be located in its own slot or profile, without rebuilding the
setup. Identical content is repaired silently; different bytes ask before they replace it. - New custom setups take the first content filename as their name and can be renamed later
without touching profiles or saves. - Show recipe variants replaces the old Advanced row. Mapsets without free recipe alternatives
keep the row visible but greyed out and skipped by focus; where alternatives exist, opening
them reveals and focuses the first one, and replacing a selection still asks for confirmation. - Compatibility on catalog mapsets now states Set by recipe instead of offering a control that
could not change anything. Custom setups keep Auto and numeric compatibility. - Discover keeps its category filters and chronological order; the Discover and Library
Cards/List choice is shared. Screenshots now cover 114 of the 118 catalog recipes. - Headless Chicken now selects MBF21 in the catalog after a Boom crash.
- AppStream and binary versions are both 0.0.15.
Install or update the signed Flatpak through doomdecklauncher.com:
flatpak install --user --from https://doomdecklauncher.com/com.doomdecklauncher.DoomDeckLauncher.flatpakrefThe GitHub assets provide the Linux x86_64 tarball and its SHA-256 checksum. IWADs are never
included, and DSDA-Doom is downloaded from its official upstream at runtime.
Focused offline local-content, navigation, ordering and rendering checks passed, together with
the offline catalog lint. Physical Deck checks are still pending: controller and Steam-keyboard
feel for local content, Flatpak folder visibility, SD-card behavior, the greyed-out variant row
contrast, the recipe-controlled compatibility note, how the new screenshots render on the Deck,
and the owner's upgrade. See the manual checks.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.14-browse
Discover and Library List now scroll continuously as focus moves, with a short transition and neighboring rows retained. Installed favorite mapsets appear first in Library in both Cards and List, keeping release order within each group and preserving the selected mapset when toggled.
This update also adds 12 verified real screenshots for mapsets that previously had none: caustic-industry, doom-ii-the-way-id-did, going-down-turbo, hell-revealed-3-pt-1, jolly-junkyard, no-end-in-sight, plutonia-2, rekkr, scythe-ii, terminal-voltage, the-10x10-project and tnt-revilution. The other 14 remain unresolved because no verified usable in-game image was available; exact sources, candidates and blockers are recorded honestly in the screenshot report. AppStream and binary versions are both 0.0.14.
Install or update the signed Flatpak through doomdecklauncher.com. The shared Cards/List choice remains available through Select on a controller or V on a keyboard.
Focused offline navigation, ordering and rendering checks passed, together with the offline catalog lint. Physical Deck scroll feel, real controller/trackpad behavior, how Discover renders the new images on the Deck and the owner's upgrade are still awaiting Deck validation; see the manual checks.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.13-update
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.13-update
This experimental Steam Deck update brings the signed Flatpak and GitHub tarball
forward together from the same source commit.
- Switch Discover and Library between Cards and a compact List with Select (or V on
a keyboard). The two tabs share the choice, preserve focus and remember it after closing. - When a catalog needs a newer DDL, the manual check now names the required version
and asks for an application update. - Flatpak AppStream metadata now uses the workspace version automatically at build
time. Publication checks compare its installed display version with the binary and
verify the exported source commit. - Includes the existing 118-recipe catalog and the reviewed publication-wait repair.
Install or update the signed Flatpak from doomdecklauncher.com.
Existing installations can update with:
flatpak update --user com.doomdecklauncher.DoomDeckLauncherThe GitHub assets provide the Linux x86_64 tarball and SHA-256 checksum. IWADs are
never included. DSDA-Doom is downloaded from its official upstream at runtime.
Physical Steam Deck checks for the new browsing mode, package version in Discover,
controller behavior and saved preferences remain pending. The automated Linux tests
and signed-install smoke checks do not replace those hardware checks.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.12-catalog
Catalogue expansion: 118 curated mapsets, chronological browsing, and a player-supplied
No Rest for the Living.
Install: download ddl-linux-x86_64.tar.gz below, or use the signed Flatpak repository at
https://doomdecklauncher.com/ (Discover keeps it updated).
What is new
- 118 recipes (was 92). Twenty-five new downloadable mapsets: Scythe II, Plutonia 2, TNT:
Revilution, Going Down: Turbo, The 10x10 Project, Speed of Doom, Doom the Way id Did, No End in
Sight, Doom II the Way id Did, Deathless, Sunder, REKKR, Arrival, Vanguard, Lunatic, Overboard,
Headless Chicken, Micro Slaughter Community Project, UAC Ultra, Japanese Community Project,
Stardate 20X6, Ozonia, Abandon, Swim With The Whales and Haste — plus No Rest for the
Living, which uses your own copy of the expansion. - Browsing follows release chronology. Discover categories, Favorites and the Library sort by
first public release, oldest first, from an explicit evidence-based date. Favorites never push
a newer mapset ahead of an older one, and an unknown date sorts last instead of inventing
January 1. - Community Projects is focused again. Doomer Boards entries no longer duplicate there; the
dedicated Doomer Boards category and every other earned tag are unchanged. - New Gimmick category, earned by The 10x10 Project for its ten-texture/ten-flat constraint.
- No Rest for the Living never downloads the expansion. It requires Doom II and your own
NERVE.WAD(BFG/XBLA or the DOOM + DOOM II Steam/KEX edition). Play stays blocked until you
import the file, the import cannot be toggled off, and the original filename is preserved for
DSDA-Doom's mission selection. An unrecognized variant still works, with an honest warning
instead of a false "verified" claim.
Notes and limits
- The catalog bundle now requires 0.0.12, so older clients keep their embedded catalog until
they update. - Linear Doom is not included: no reproducible archive bytes were available and DSDA support
could not be established. - Sunder is pinned to the author's V.2407 build (22 maps), not the later V.2512 release.
- Needs Deck validation: controller navigation after the new ordering, importing each NERVE
variant, and gameplay/performance on hardware.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.11-polish
This prerelease refines everyday browsing and setup on Steam Deck:
- Official website at https://doomdecklauncher.com/ and Flatpak identity com.doomdecklauncher.DoomDeckLauncher.
- Roomier mapset and original-game cards, with artwork clear of the frames.
- Compact DDL branding in the app; specific Discover categories in the requested order, including Doomer Boards.
- Memento Mori and Memento Mori II in Classics; Scythe remains available there.
- Clear normal versus COMPAT SIGIL music choices, with filenames retained in import help.
- Lightweight Pistol start changes that preserve launch-time file verification.
- Independent catalog updates checked each startup, with an English UTC catalog-source date in Discover and an offline fallback.
Install the signed Flatpak through https://doomdecklauncher.com/ or use the Linux x86_64 tarball below. Install this new Flatpak identity from the website; the previous experimental identity is not migrated. Later updates to this identity arrive through Discover. The site and README use refreshed headless screenshots of sample state.
Validation: formatting, Clippy and all 898 workspace tests passed, with the full unfiltered suite also green in Linux CI. Steam Runtime builds, real-network Linux e2e, signed Flatpak installation/execution and canonical website verification passed. The published tarball SHA-256 was independently checked. Physical Deck checks remain for card readability, rapid-toggle feel, real SIGIL/MIDI playback and slow-network behavior; see docs/deck-testing.md. This is an experimental pre-alpha prerelease, not a Flathub publication.
DoomDeckLauncher v0.0.10-audio
Deck testing build with easier launching, hardware rendering defaults, MIDI soundfont selection and verified purchased SIGIL editions.
- Home Continue and Detail Play launch directly; Edit setup remains available.
- DSDA-Doom defaults to hardware rendering and uses the active display resolution in fullscreen.
- Settings → Audio offers Default and an optional verified Arachno download, applied on the next game launch.
- Purchased SIGIL REG and SIGIL II MP3 WADs are recognized as complete replacements. SIGIL SHREDS_COMPAT activates the required COMPAT maps and loads after them.
- Antaresian Reliquary joins the catalog; MAP31 carries a Steam Deck performance warning.
Install on Steam Deck
Recommended: open the project download page in Desktop Mode and use Install on Steam Deck to install the signed Flatpak through Discover. Existing Flatpak users can update through Discover after the repository publication finishes.
Alternative: download ddl-linux-x86_64.tar.gz below, verify its SHA-256 using the accompanying checksum file, extract it and run ddl/ddl. This tarball contains the launcher; DDL manages its DSDA-Doom engine download separately. Supply your own legally owned DOOM IWADs; none is bundled.
Validation
The integrated source passed fmt, clippy and 870 offline workspace tests. Linux CI, the Flatpak artifact build and real-network Linux e2e passed before the version-only release bump. Physical Deck validation is still needed for audible Default/Arachno switching, paid MP3 playback, Gaming Mode controls and the managed SF2 path in the Flatpak.
See Deck test checks for the current checklist.
