@vividfeverdreams vividfeverdreams released this 19 Oct 18:05

Six free, open-source plug-ins for bass music: YOI-BOI 0.2.3, THROW-UP 0.2.2, BACK-SCRATCH 0.11.2, SHIFTY 0.5.3, ENERGY HARVESTER 0.4.3 and STUTTER-STEP 0.4.1. This release adds a random-preset key to every plug-in, and the suite now runs on Linux too.

Already on 1.6.0? Open any plug-in's INFO page: the INFO key lights up, and INSTALL downloads and opens the new installer (on Linux, GET opens this page).

Platform File Notes
Mac (Apple Silicon, macOS 12+) Vivid-Fever-Dreams-Suite-v1.6.1-Beta-Install.zip VST3 + Audio Unit. Installer and plug-ins signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
Windows 10/11 (64-bit) Vivid-Fever-Dreams-Suite-v1.6.1-Beta-Windows-Setup.exe VST3 installer. Pick the plug-ins you want.
Windows, no installer Vivid-Fever-Dreams-Suite-v1.6.1-Beta-Windows-VST3.zip The six .vst3 bundles; copy them to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.
Linux (64-bit x86, new) Vivid-Fever-Dreams-Suite-v1.6.1-Beta-Linux-x64.tar.gz VST3, with an install.sh. Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or newer.

Mac

  1. Double-click the ZIP to extract it.
  2. Quit your DAW (and Logic Pro or GarageBand if you're installing the Audio Units).
  3. Open Install Vivid Fever Dreams Suite.app, tick the plug-ins and formats you want, and click Install / Update.
  4. Rescan plug-ins in your DAW. VST3 go to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3, AU to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components. No administrator password needed.

Windows

  1. Run the Setup. The beta isn't signed with a Microsoft certificate yet, so if Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.
  2. Rescan plug-ins. In Ableton Live: Settings > Plug-ins, turn on "Use VST3 Plug-in System Folder", then Rescan. In FL Studio: Options > Manage plugins > Find more plugins.

Linux

  1. Unpack it: tar xzf Vivid-Fever-Dreams-Suite-v1.6.1-Beta-Linux-x64.tar.gz
  2. In the new folder, run ./install.sh. It copies the six plug-ins to ~/.vst3; sudo ./install.sh --system installs them for every user instead, and ./install.sh SHIFTY YOI-BOI picks some.
  3. Rescan plug-ins in your DAW (REAPER, Bitwig Studio, Ardour, Carla and other VST3 hosts). Needs X11 or XWayland.

Every Windows and Linux build passes pluginval at strictness 5. Projects move between Mac, Windows and Linux with the same settings.

What's new in 1.6.1

  • Random presets on every plug-in. Each one has a key next to its preset name that loads a random saved preset (factory or yours), never the one already loaded:
    • YOI-BOI: a die beside the Favorite star, and beside YOUR SOUNDS on the LIBRARY page. It picks from the Library view you're on, folder and search included.
    • THROW-UP: a dice key in front of the preset arrows, picking from the bank the arrows browse.
    • BACK-SCRATCH: a shuffle key beside the preset arrows (RANDOMIZE still makes a new pattern). With slot B-H selected it loads into that slot.
    • SHIFTY: a die beside PRESETS, picking from the list you're viewing.
    • ENERGY HARVESTER: a die between the preset arrows and SAVE.
    • STUTTER-STEP: a shuffle key beside SAVE, through the factory and USER grooves (NEW GROOVE still makes a brand-new one).
  • SHIFTY's RANDOM now switches the engine (TALK, MOUTH or CLASSIC) and Vowel Color too, so every click sounds different. To keep your engine, right-click the engine selector and choose Lock for randomization.
  • Fixes: THROW-UP's preset box shows the right name when one user preset replaces another; an ENERGY HARVESTER preset saved under a name that's already taken lists under its numbered name.
  • Linux. The whole suite now builds and runs on 64-bit Linux as VST3. Huge thanks to @Rolandjg, who built the Linux version, its installer and its automated builds, and tested it on Ubuntu and Fedora (#1).

Existing projects open and sound exactly as before.

What's new in 1.6.0

  • Updates from inside the plug-ins. Every plug-in's INFO page shows the suite version and checks this page for a newer release (at most once a day, while a plug-in window is open). When one is out, the INFO key lights up and INSTALL downloads the new installer, checks it (its SHA-256 below; on the Mac also the Developer ID signature and Apple's notarization) and opens it. The installer asks you to quit your DAW before it replaces anything. 1.5.0 and older have no update check, so install 1.6.0 by hand once.
  • SHIFTY and THROW-UP: OUTPUT is now a knob, on SHIFTY beside INFO and on THROW-UP in the footer plate. Its ring lights from 0 dB to your setting.
  • STUTTER-STEP: SAVE keeps any groove, NEW GROOVE rolls included, in a USER folder at the end of the groove menu. Name it, press Return. The arrows step through the factory grooves, then yours.
  • YOI-BOI: the MOD page drops the FEEL column (the knobs already cover it), so TALK, PITCH, TONE and ATTACK get more room. The "New sound ready" message and the LENGTH feel menu no longer show stray characters.
  • ENERGY HARVESTER: tooltips stay fully inside the window and wrap between words.
  • BACK-SCRATCH: fill presets say when they play in plain words, like "PLAYS EVERY 4TH BAR", and PLAY reads EVERY 2ND, 4TH or 8TH.

Existing projects open and sound exactly as before.

What's new in 1.5.0

  • SHIFTY: the footer sits in the device's own plate, clear of the speaker grill, and the shell glows with the sound (brighter when louder, rising and sinking with the formants, tinted by the vowel). Every menu drops from the control you clicked.
  • STUTTER-STEP: NEW GROOVE composes a brand-new rhythm every time, never a copy of a preset, and marks it NEW. RATE 1/4 spreads the 16 steps over four bars.
  • YOI-BOI and ENERGY HARVESTER: right-click menus open at the pointer.
  • The whole suite runs on Windows (VST3).
