google/gemma-4-31b-itwith--tool-call-parser gemma4and--reasoning-parser gemma4under a tool-calling scenario, the vLLM OpenAI-compatible server completely fails to intercept and parse Gemma 4's native tool-calling sequences (e.g.,<|tool_call|>call:...<tool_call|>).Instead of converting these sequences into standard OpenAI
tool_callsJSON payloads, the server passes the raw, unparsed tool-calling text blocks directly to the client as a regular assistant text response.
