reddont v0.1.2

🚀 reddont 0.1.2

Feeds and post pages no longer fail to load because of a single gallery post with missing image details.

🛠️ Fixes

  • Gallery posts no longer break the page. When Reddit listed an image in a gallery but left out that image's details, the whole feed or post page failed with a TypeError in post.pug, and every feed that included the post failed the same way. The page now loads. That image gets a best-guess link and may show as broken inside the gallery, and a gallery with no images shows as a plain post. Reported in #41. #43

📦 Under the hood

  • Coverage. JavaScript line coverage rose from 55.24% to 97.93% across application files, with all 324 tests passing and none skipped. #24 #38
  • Smaller Reddit client. 29 request methods the app never called were removed. #38
  • Dependency maintenance. Renovate updated Playwright to 1.64.1, the docs build to Zensical 0.0.71 and Python 3.15, and its GitHub Action, and kept the lockfile current. #31 #34 #39 #40 #42

⚠️ Before you upgrade

  • Update the image to ghcr.io/voc0der/reddont:0.1.2, or follow :latest. No configuration or database changes are needed.

reddont v0.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@voc0der voc0der released this 08 Oct 13:44

🚀 reddont 0.1.1

Home, all, and popular now show only the past week's posts, while communities keep older posts. Post search gains old reddit's options. Signed-in users without a saved Reddit credential can borrow a cookie someone chose to share.

✨ What's new

  • Search like old reddit. Post search offers sort (relevance, new, hot, top, comments), time range, and NSFW options on the search page, in the desktop sidebar, and on the results page. On a community's pages, the sidebar search starts limited to that subreddit. Results list matching subreddits with join and search-within links, and later pages keep your options. #14
  • Shared cookie fallback. A new preference lets signed-in users of your instance who have no saved Reddit credential use your cookie for browser and API requests. It is off by default, their own credentials take priority, and bearer tokens are never shared. #15
  • Feed recovery. When a feed fails to load, including during infinite scroll, a recovery page explains Reddit authentication and links to its settings. #15

🔄 Changed

  • Recent posts on home, all, and popular. These feeds show only posts from the past week, in all five sorts, in Reddit's order. Their time ranges stop at a week. #19 #20 #21
  • Communities keep older posts. Single and combined communities still show older posts, so quiet ones are never empty, but each page lists posts from the past week first. Top and controversial default to all time. #20

🛠️ Fixes

  • Going back to an infinitely scrolled feed brings back the posts you had loaded, at the same place, even when the browser had discarded the page, as phones often do. #18
  • A failed post search now shows a message instead of an error page. #14
  • The desktop header's wordmark now lines up with the page name and sort tabs, and the search buttons match the height of the search box. #13

📦 Under the hood

  • Coverage. JavaScript line coverage is 55.24% across application files, with all 182 tests passing and none skipped.
  • Dependency maintenance. Renovate updated the lockfile and its GitHub Action. #16 #17

⚠️ Before you upgrade

  • Back up first. On startup, 0.1.1 adds a shareRedditCookie column to the users table. Existing accounts start with sharing turned off. See backups and updates.
  • Update the image to ghcr.io/voc0der/reddont:0.1.1, or follow :latest. No configuration changes are needed.

reddont v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@voc0der voc0der released this 06 Oct 18:52

🚀 reddont 0.1.0

The first reddont release since the project migrated from lurker. It carries forward the self-hosted, read-only Reddit client, with a refreshed desktop layout, new branding, and fixes for long comment threads.

✨ What's new

  • A new home and identity. The app, container images, configuration names, and Nix package now use reddont. A speech bubble with a slashed R replaces the old browser and installed-app icons. #2
  • Old Reddit on desktop. Ranked listings, sort tabs, a community sidebar, inline media expanders, and boxed comments bring the familiar old Reddit and RES layout to wider screens. Light, Dark, and RES Night Mode themes follow that design. #1
  • Keyboard navigation and subscriptions. Use j and k to move between posts and comments, x or Enter to expand them, and c to open comments. The “my subreddits” menu filters subscriptions and sorts them by name or recent visits. #1 #3
  • Long threads keep loading. With infinite scrolling enabled, reaching the bottom automatically loads the next batch of comments. Manual loading remains available. #10
  • Documentation and screenshots. A new documentation site covers installation, configuration, SSO, the API, backups, and development, with a gallery showing desktop and phone layouts. Documentation · #6

The existing phone layout, per-user subscriptions and preferences, invite-only accounts, optional SSO, installable web app, and authenticated JSON and Atom feeds remain part of reddont.

🛠️ Fixes

  • Load more comments now loads a batch of sibling comments and their replies instead of stopping after one comment's subtree. #10
  • Single-comment navigation points to the right comments and preserves the signed-in header. #1
  • Home-screen icons use actual PNG files, including maskable Android icons. #2
  • Infinite scrolling reads request values from data attributes, fixing a script-injection issue in generated page scripts. #1

📦 Under the hood

  • Separate release and nightly images. Manual releases publish :latest and the chosen version. A merged pull request with the nightly label publishes :nightly, a dated tag, and a commit tag. Ordinary pushes no longer publish images. Publishing images
  • Coverage reporting. The documented JavaScript line-coverage calculation reports 45.65% across application files, including untested files. The recorded run passed all 94 tests with none skipped. Browser checks also exercise comment loading across themes and screen sizes. #10 #11
  • Dependency maintenance. Renovate manages package, lockfile, and workflow updates. #4

⚠️ Before you upgrade

  • Migrating from lurker? Back up the existing database and configuration first. Update the image to ghcr.io/voc0der/reddont:0.1.0 and review the renamed REDDONT_* settings in the environment reference.
  • Preserve your data and secret. reddont opens reddont.db under /data in Docker, or under REDDONT_DATA_DIR when configured. Place the migrated database at that path before starting; the app does not discover the former data path automatically. Keep the existing JWT_SECRET_KEY, including for stored OIDC refresh tokens. See backups and updates.
  • Choose an update channel. :0.1.0 selects this release version. :latest follows manual releases; :nightly follows selected development builds. Use an image digest when an exact build must remain pinned.
