Catalyst VoltSeq — v1.5.1
UX refinements for VoltSeq mode. Saved state is not compatible with v1.5.0 — all channels will reset to defaults on first boot after flashing.
Changes
Range simplified to four options
CV channel range (enc 4 in Channel Edit) now offers four spans: 2V / 5V / 10V / 15V. The previous seven-step ladder (1–4V in 1V increments plus 5/10/15V) had too many options with too little practical difference in the lower end. Default is 5V. Colors: orange (2V), yellow (5V), green (10V), blue (15V).
Transpose display: red / blue
Transpose (enc 6) now uses a clean red ↔ blue gradient: dim-red at −1V ramping to bright-red at −5V, grey at 0V, dim-blue at +1V ramping to bright-blue at maximum. Previous mixed warm/cool colors (orange, pink, lavender, etc.) are replaced.
Random deviation in semitones
The random deviation encoder (enc 7 in Channel Edit) now steps in semitones instead of whole volts, with a maximum of ±3 octaves (36 semitones). Unipolar (CW): light grey gradient; bipolar (CCW): salmon gradient. Octave boundaries (12, 24, 36 semitones) snap to blue (CW) or red (CCW) for easy landmark recognition.
Peek-before-edit for Length and Clock Div
Both enc 2 (Length) and enc 5 (Clock Div) now require one "peek" detent before editing begins. The first turn of either encoder shows the current value on the LEDs without changing it; a second turn within the 900 ms display window starts adjusting. After the window expires, the next turn is another peek. This makes it easy to check a setting without accidentally changing it.
Clear and init defaults: 0V / gates off
Cleared CV channels now default to 0V (bottom of the window at default transpose) instead of 2.5V. Gate and Trigger channels are already initialized to off; this remains unchanged. Applies to both partial clear (page button in Clear Mode) and full reset (Shift + page button).

Catalyst VoltSeq — v1.5.0
VoltSeq is a second firmware personality for the Catalyst Sequencer panel. It turns the module into an 8-channel voltage recorder and step sequencer in the style of the Malekko Voltage Block — parameter lock, polyrhythmic, recordable with the Phase Scrub slider.
This release ships as a second WAV alongside the standard Catalyst Sequencer build. Both personalities live in the same firmware image; no reflashing is needed to switch between them.

What's in this release
- 8 independent channels — each with its own type (CV / Gate / Trigger), step length (1–64), clock division, and playback direction
- CV channels — stepped or slewed voltage, configurable voltage window (range + floor), optional quantizer scales, slider recording in real time
- Gate channels — variable gate length per step, per-step ratchet subdivisions, x0x-style step toggling
- Trigger channels — short pulse with configurable width, per-step ratchet (subdivide) or repeat (extend)
- Per-step probability — stochastic gate suppression (Gate/Trigger) or CV deviation (CV); edited per-step while armed
- Phase Scrub Performance Page — orbit engine and beat repeat ported from Catalyst Sequencer; per-channel follow toggle
- External clock — 1 pulse per 16th note at Clock In; resumes internal clock on removal
- Intentional save — all data written to flash only on explicit gesture (see below)
Switching personalities
No reflashing needed. Both builds (CatSeq+CatCon and CatSeq+VoltSeq) ship in this release.
Within the CatSeq+VoltSeq build:
- CatSeq → VoltSeq: hold Shift + Tap Tempo + Chan. for 1 second — all 8 channel LEDs blink to confirm
- VoltSeq → CatSeq: hold Fine + Play/Reset + Glide for 1 second — all 8 channel LEDs blink to confirm
Mode is saved to flash. Switching does not erase the other mode's data.
Saving
VoltSeq uses intentional saving — nothing is written to flash automatically (except Performance Page settings, which save on Performance Page exit).
To save: hold Glide, then press and hold Chan. Page buttons fast-blink during the hold, then blink 6 times to confirm. Glide must be pressed first — pressing Chan. first shows channel type colors instead and does not trigger a save.
Power-cycling without saving will lose unsaved changes.

Legacy release. v1.5.0 is the current release and includes everything in v1.4.6 plus the Catalyst VoltSeq personality. This build (Catalyst Sequencer + Catalyst Controller only) is kept available for users who prefer the CatSeq+CatCon combination while v1.5.0 is in RC.
Phase Scrub Performance Page (v1.4.6)
Entry: hold Copy + Glide for 1.5 seconds. Exit: Copy + Glide (any duration) or Play/Reset.
Lock toggle: Copy + Glide, release either button before 1.5s (fires on release; continuing to hold enters the menu).
A dedicated performance page replacing the basic lock toggle combo. All settings persist across reboots.

Page buttons: toggle per-track scrub participation. Lit = track follows scrub, unlit = track ignores scrub and plays normally.
Quantize (Enc 1): in standard/granular mode, snaps the scrub phase to the nearest step boundary. In beat repeat, controls entry timing: off = fires immediately on SHIFT release (precise, timing-dependent); on = snaps to nearest step boundary (max half-step wait, always musical).
Slider Performance Mode (Enc 2):
- Off: standard phase scrub
- Green — Granular: slider positions a looping orbit window within the sequence. Enc 3 sets window width (0–100%); Enc 4 sets playback direction (green=fwd, blue=bck, orange=ping-pong, lavender=random). Width=0 or slider at minimum disables orbit.
- Blue — Beat Repeat (8 zones, triplets): slider selects a subdivision rate from 8 zones (1/2, 1/4, 1/4T, 1/8, 1/8T, 1/16, 1/16T, 1/32). Enc 3 sets debounce delay (50ms–1500ms, default 150ms, transient). Slider at minimum turns beat repeat off.
- Cyan — Beat Repeat (4 zones, no triplets): wider zones for easier live targeting (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16). Enc 3 same as Blue. Enc 4 unlit/inactive in both beat repeat modes.
Beat repeat SHIFT staging: Hold SHIFT to freeze the active division and looped step — slider moves freely without scrubbing or committing a new zone. Release to commit. Cleanest way to return to zero without chaos in transit.
Beat repeat entry: starts on the next master clock tick after entry (step-grid aligned). The first step that fires becomes the looped step automatically — release SHIFT when you hear the hit you want, and it locks to that beat.
Phase Scrub Lock (Enc 8) works in all modes. Beat repeat and granular both respect the per-track scrub ignore mask.
Phase Scrub lock persistence (v1.4.6)
Phase Scrub lock state and locked slider position now survive power cycles. On boot with lock restored, the slider enters pickup mode automatically.
Sub-step page navigation (v1.4.6)
Combo: Shift + Page button while in sub-step mask edit mode.
Changes page without exiting sub-step edit mode. The focused step clears so you can focus a step on the new page.
