Glance 0.2.0 is the stable release of the 0.2 beta series for Apple Silicon Macs
running macOS 13 or newer.

Included in 0.2

• Agent conversations with task tracking, delegated agents, and a read-only
  message board for following agent discussions and replies.
• Semantic and hybrid document search, exact grouped document counts, fuzzy
  entity suggestions, and citations tied to the document version used in an answer.
• Connectors for syncing and indexing source documents, with pause and resume
  controls and recoverable attribute catalog builds.
• Built-in browser, workspace files, diffs, and terminal views alongside chat.
• Dictation and on-device models installed only after authorization in
  Settings → On-device models.
• Signed and notarized Mac installers and signed application updates.
• Linux Docker Compose deployment for browser access, with native parsing and
  optional GPU OCR and document annotation services.

Changes since v0.2.0-beta.10

• Promoted the release to the stable update channel. Stable update metadata is
  published as latest-mac.yml; the GitHub release is marked as stable.
• The application and storage formats match beta.10. No data reset is required
  when upgrading from beta.10.

Installation and upgrades

From beta.10

Quit Glance, download Glance-0.2.0-arm64.dmg, and replace Glance in Applications.
Open Glance with your existing data directory.

Beta installations check the beta update channel. Use the DMG to move to stable;
the stable installation checks for subsequent stable updates.

From beta.9 or earlier

A fresh data directory is required. There is no migration. The agent
projection schema is 27, the main database schema is 68, connector schemas are
14, and the terminal host schema is 9. Incompatible storage is rejected at startup.

1. Quit Glance.

2. Move your existing data directory aside for recovery. Choose a backup path
   that does not already exist:

   mv ~/.glance ~/.glance-before-0.2.0

   If you set ATLAS_DESKTOP_DATA_DIR, move that directory instead.

3. Install Glance-0.2.0-arm64.dmg and replace Glance in Applications.

4. Open Glance and set it up again: sign in, then re-add model providers,
   connectors, and agents. Connectors resync and reindex from their sources.

For Linux, build from the 0.2.0 source revision. Beta.10 storage can be reused.
For beta.9 or earlier, stop the stack and use a new empty Lander storage volume;
keep the old volume for recovery. Public Linux registry images are not included
in the Mac release asset set. GPU modes require a compatible NVIDIA server.

The optional Reason-ModernColBERT model remains subject to CC-BY-NC-4.0.

This prerelease targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13 or newer.

This release requires a fresh Glance data directory. Beta.9 cannot open data
created by beta.8 or earlier, and it does not migrate it. Read
Installation before upgrading.

Changes since v0.2.0-beta.8

Agents and search

• Agents can now count documents grouped by one or two fields, which answers
  questions such as "who has the most bugs" or "issues by assignee and type".
  Counts are exact across the whole source or the request fails. They are never
  estimated from part of the data.
• Entity lookup now suggests close spellings when there is no exact, substring,
  or word match. Suggestions are labeled as unconfirmed and are not applied as
  filters automatically.
• Agents now see each selected source's alias and its filterable, returnable, and
  groupable fields. This fixes agents failing to list Jira assignees and similar
  metadata because they guessed field names.
• Rejected tool input now returns a specific, correctable reason to the agent
  instead of a generic "The tool input is invalid."
• Citations now point to the exact document version the answer used, so a later
  reindex no longer changes what a citation opens.
• Browsing a source now fails with an explicit error if part of the index cannot
  be read, instead of showing partial results and totals.

Chat and agents

• Web links in chat responses open in the built-in browser. Hold Command, Control,
  Shift, or Option while clicking to open the system browser instead.
• Deleting an agent now completes in the background. The agent disappears
  immediately and cannot start new work. Its schedules, evaluations, and running
  sessions are stopped before its conversations are removed.
• Fixed agents waiting indefinitely after a terminal command was rejected before
  launch, for example a working directory outside the workspace. The agent now
  receives the rejection and can correct the command.

Connectors, sync, and parsing

• Pausing and resuming connector syncs now takes effect reliably.
• Fixed Jira and Confluence items, and files whose size changed after discovery,
  failing ingestion because their actual size differed from the reported size.
  The configured file-size limit is still enforced on the received content.
• Attribute catalogs now resume unfinished builds after a restart without
  triggering repeated full index sweeps, and are not rebuilt more often than
  every 15 minutes unless the source changes.
• Reduced routine LanceDB log noise in the local console. Set
  RUST_LOG=info,lance::dataset_events=info to restore it.

Linux deployment

• Added a Linux x86_64 Docker Compose deployment for running Glance in a browser
  over HTTPS, with persistent Lander storage and a shared pilot workspace.
• Added deployment modes for CPU native parsing, OvisOCR2, and optional
  Qwen3.5-9B image descriptions and document annotations.
• Parser Studio now selects Atlas Native on servers without OCR and explains
  unavailable parsing and annotation options.
• Mac and Linux image builds use the same product release version.
• SSH-only Linux deployments can disable the browser login prompt while keeping
  the web port bound to localhost.
• Added localhost callback forwarding for ChatGPT sign-in over SSH and excluded
  callback query credentials from gateway and backend HTTP traces.
• Added an explicit Linux Code Mode option for kernels without Landlock while
  retaining seccomp and the remaining worker restrictions.
• Packaged Linux code runtimes with the required ownership and a stable container
  machine identity so Code Mode and the embedded terminal initialize correctly.
• Requested parser annotations now fail explicitly when their runtime fails,
  instead of returning a completed result with the annotation missing.

The Linux deployment currently builds from the source checkout. Public Linux
registry images are not included in this release's Mac artifact set. GPU modes
require a compatible NVIDIA server. Native extraction can return text and tables
without retaining a PNG page preview.

Breaking changes

• No data migration. The storage schemas changed (main database 60 → 68,
  connector databases 7 → 14, terminal host 8 → 9). Beta.9 only creates these
  schemas in an empty data directory. At startup it rejects an existing directory
  with "The Atlas database does not match this release's hard-cut schema" and
  does not modify it.
• Citations in earlier conversations no longer open. Regenerate an answer to
  get working citations.
• Agent semantic_search and hybrid_search no longer accept facet_fields or
  facet_limit and no longer return facets. Use aggregate_documents for
  grouped counts. Agent versions published before this release are told that
  grouped counts are unavailable.

Installation

1. Quit Glance.

2. Move the existing data directory aside instead of deleting it, so it stays
   available for recovery:

   mv ~/.glance ~/.glance-beta8

   If you set ATLAS_DESKTOP_DATA_DIR, move that directory instead.

3. Install beta.9. On beta.8 you can use Install and restart in Glance, then
   quit before step 2 if Glance has already restarted. You can also download
   Glance-0.2.0-beta.9-arm64.dmg and replace the app in Applications. Beta.7
   and earlier must use the DMG because their updater cannot download releases.

4. Open Glance and set it up again: sign in, then re-add model providers,
   connectors, and agents. Connectors resync and reindex from their sources.

For the Linux Docker deployment, stop the stack and start beta.9 with a new,
empty Lander storage volume. Keep the old volume until you no longer need it.

The Mac application downloads on-device models only after authorization in
Settings → On-device models. The optional Reason-ModernColBERT model remains
subject to CC-BY-NC-4.0.

• Fixed update checks and downloads failing when GitHub redirects release downloads. This caused beta.6 and beta.7 to display “The update could not be verified or downloaded” even when the release and connection were valid.
• Fixed retrying selected failed connector documents being rejected because their item IDs were sent in the wrong format.

Update signature and archive integrity checks remain enforced. Downloads retain
bounded streaming, cancellation, and system proxy and certificate support.

Installation

Download Glance-0.2.0-beta.8-arm64.dmg, quit Glance, open the DMG, and drag Glance
into Applications to replace the existing app.

Upgrading from beta.7 or earlier requires a manual DMG installation. Beta.6
and beta.7 cannot download this fix through their built-in updater. Replacing
the app preserves your saved data and downloaded models.

After installing beta.8, open Glance from Applications. Future updates can be
downloaded within Glance and applied with Install and restart when ready.
Manual DMG installation remains available.

The release uses an optimized Rust build with Metal support, optimization level 3,
thin LTO, one code-generation unit, and stripped symbols. The app and DMG are
Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple, and distributed with a stapled
notarization ticket.

Agent message board and tasks

• Added a read-only message board in the agent activity view. Browse channels,
  filter posts by agent, open discussions and replies, and load more posts.
  Participating agents need the internal_message_board capability enabled
  on their profiles to use the board.
• Message board entries link back to the agent conversations that wrote them.
• Added a task panel with task status, dependencies, and links to assigned agents.
  Selecting an agent focuses its tasks and activity.

Chat and workspace views

• The conversation rail now shows elapsed time for working agents and the age of
  settled conversations. New completed and failed outcomes clear after visiting
  the conversation.
• Heading links in chat responses now scroll to the matching heading within the
  response, including repeated headings.
• Improved resizing and scrolling in the chat, terminal, file, and diff panels,
  including narrow layouts.

Breaking changes

• No data migration. The agent projection schema changed from 26 to 27.
  Startup rejects an incompatible projection with "The agent projection schema
  is incompatible." The main database remains at schema 68, connector databases
  at 14, and terminal host at 9. Use a fresh data directory for this release.

The DMG contains one Glance.app with its local Lander backend, terminal and OCR
helpers, and Code Mode worker. It includes isolated browser surfaces and HTTP
microphone dictation. The application ships no model weights; on-device models
are downloaded from immutable Hugging Face revisions only after you authorize
them in Settings → On-device models.

Changes since v0.2.0-beta.2:

• The release is now signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized
  by Apple, and the notarization ticket is stapled to the DMG. Gatekeeper no
  longer warns that the application is from an unidentified developer, and the
  previous right-click-to-open workaround is no longer required. Installation and
  updates remain manual.
• Terminal execution runs under an explicit containment layer with a remote
  executor path in the agent execution gateway.
• Refreshed the desktop design language across the application surfaces.

The DMG contains one ad-hoc-signed Glance.app with its local Lander backend,
terminal and OCR helpers, Code Mode worker, and pinned local models. It includes
isolated browser surfaces and HTTP microphone dictation. Installation and
updates are manual because the beta is not Developer ID signed or notarized.

Changes since v0.2.0-beta.1:

• The bundled backend now compiles the Metal embedding backend, so on-device
  embedding and reranking run on the Apple Silicon GPU instead of falling back
  to the CPU. Set [device] preference = "cpu" to keep the previous behavior.
