Vocabulary Practice

Vocabulary Practice is a simple, kid-friendly mobile app that helps children learn and review vocabulary words through reading, listening, quizzes, and spelling activities.

The app is built for Android and iOS. It works offline after installation and keeps everything on your device — no accounts, no ads, and no internet required to practice.

Who is it for?

  • Children who are building vocabulary and may still be developing reading skills
  • Parents and teachers who want a straightforward practice tool without logins, subscriptions, or data collection

Each learner on a shared device can have their own local profile (for example, "Alex" or "Mia") so siblings or classmates can track progress separately.

What can you do in the app?

1. Pick a learner profile

Create or choose a profile when you open the app. Profiles are stored only on the device — they are not online accounts.

2. Choose a word set

Browse vocabulary sets, search by name, and filter by grade level. Each set groups related words with definitions and examples.

3. Practice in four ways

Mode What it does
Learn Words Review words and definitions with optional read-aloud support
Quiz Match a definition to the correct word (multiple choice)
Spell It Spell the word that matches a given definition using letter tiles
Type It Type the word from memory for an extra recall challenge

Read-aloud uses your device’s built-in text-to-speech so children can hear words and definitions even before they can read them comfortably.

4. Track progress

The app remembers each profile’s progress per word set — which words have been reviewed, quizzed, and spelled. Progress stays on the device and survives app restarts.

How the app is designed

  • Local only — profiles, settings, and progress are saved on your phone or tablet
  • No backend — there is no server, API, or cloud database
  • No personal data collection — we do not receive names, progress, or usage data from the app
  • No login — no email, password, or signup
  • No ads — practice without interruptions
  • Works offline — vocabulary and practice modes do not need an internet connection

Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored profiles and progress. There is no cloud backup.

Typical flow

Open app → Choose profile → Pick a word set → Practice (Learn / Quiz / Spell It / Type It) → See progress

From a word set, you can also view the full word list and reset progress for that set or profile if you want to start over.

Settings

Parents and teachers can adjust options such as:

  • Text-to-speech speed
  • Auto-read for words and quiz prompts
  • Whether Type It is required to mark a word complete

Privacy

Vocabulary Practice does not collect or transmit your information. For full details, see the Privacy Policy wiki page.
