Install

  • Clone or unzip the zip file in : 'your_unreal_project'/Content
  • Rename the folder to 'baseMapping' , you should know have a Content/baseMapping folder
  • Start the unreal project

Initial Setup

  • Rename the baseMapping folder in unreal to a name corresponding to your package : eg : vzombiesMapping
  • Open ?/Generator/WBP_BaseMapConfig_Generator
  • Go to Graph
  • Edit CALLED_EVENT_NAME default value to an unique value of your choice
  • image

Creating Placeholders

  • There are some examples in Placeholders/Examples (you can duplicate them directly and edit them)
  • Right click on Base_Placeholder and click "Create Child Blueprint Class"
  • Open it
  • Enable Show Inherited Variables
  • image
  • You can add config keys in the corresponding type, for example let's create a string config key
  • image
  • You can place it and edit it's string config (Mapper side)
  • image
  • Generator output :
test_C = {
    name = "test_C",
    data = {},
}
table.insert(test_C.data, {
    somestrconfig = "not_def",
})

Package.Subscribe("Load", function()
	Events.Call("BASE_MAP_CONFIG", test_C)
end)
  • Gen behaviors bool : Actor Loc, Actor Rot, Actor Scale (Do you need that actor loc, rot and scale exported for that placeholder ?)

Distributing the mapping tool

  • Put your unreal Mapping folder (in Content) on github
  • Tell the mapper the folder name so he don't put a wrong name and breaks all references
  • Small tutorial on your wiki on how to use it (placing placeholders and exporting map config)
  • documentation about your placeholders

Updating the base mapping tool

  • At your own risk
