Marisa presented updates to the use case template, including removing the WCAG alignment section, encouraging more detailed user stories, and consolidating task, success, and failure fields into one description. She noted that use cases should focus on a single feature rather than covering every idea. George submitted two new use cases related to screen readers and reading aloud functionality, which included specific features like controlling page number reading and math slowdown.
Oscar explained that he had sent four EPUB sample files for media overlays, including versions in English, with math and MathML, a tiny version, and one with different languages using synthetic voices. These files, which are free to use without copyright restrictions, have been used internally to test format conversions between EPUB 3 and DAISY, and could potentially be used for evaluating reading systems. The team discussed reviewing these samples and potentially sourcing additional sample files.
Marisa and George discussed use cases related to screen reader functionality and pre-recorded audio, focusing on how users can switch between these modes efficiently. George explained that the language-related feature should honor language shifts, particularly in multilingual textbook materials, and confirmed that the use case should work both online and offline.
Hiroshi presented a new use case involving a sign language user who reads books at a library serving both blind and deaf individuals, highlighting the need for adaptive solutions as the reader's vision declines. He emphasized the importance of developing a multimedia book system that supports modality shifts, including tactile sign language and braille, to ensure lifelong reading accessibility. Marisa acknowledged the use case and committed to posting it to the tracker, noting its potential to raise interesting requirements. Hiroshi clarified that in real-world disaster situations, local government typically maintains and implements emergency content guidelines, while central government develops the policies.
The team discussed collecting use cases from various sources, including the Storyteller Discord and the Library for the Blind. Christian agreed to submit use cases for existing products, while Avneesh suggested including future-looking use cases like audio-synced eBraille for design considerations. Marisa mentioned additional ideas for use cases, including sign language and comics use cases, and noted that Stacy had started breaking down use case number 5 (life-critical public information during nuclear emergencies) into smaller components.
The team discussed a document on disaster preparedness content development and consumption, with Stacy presenting a framework divided into categories including past disasters, current imminent disasters, and ongoing disaster content consumption. Hiroshi emphasized the importance of offline accessibility during disasters. Stacy agreed to continue developing the document with more permutations, particularly for the ongoing disasters category, and will send an email in one week for asynchronous feedback and collaboration.
The group discussed various use cases for multimedia content delivery during disasters, including on-demand asset downloads, synchronized audio and text, and dynamic escape route information. Avneesh mentioned a new concept from Dedicon regarding downloadable assets that can integrate on the user side. The group confirmed they would continue collecting use cases for the next several weeks before extracting requirements.
