@sage8dev sage8dev released this 19 Oct 04:01

Version 0.7.1-beta of the two free WaveLens command-line tools, released together with WaveLens 0.7.1-beta. No license, no installer, nothing to set up.

What's new: wavgen has a new --fade-in option, and both tools are updated to version 0.7.1-beta.

Tools

  • wavgen generates WAV test signals: tones, sweeps, level steps, noise, and band-limited square and sawtooth waves, with an optional sync tone. Sample rates from 22,050 to 192,000 Hz; 16, 24 or 32-bit; mono or stereo. The same command always writes the same file.
  • wavchan works with the channels of WAV files: split a stereo or multichannel file into per-channel files or stereo pairs, pack mono and stereo files into one file, info to read a file's channel layout, join files end to end, and mix them together. 16, 24 and 32-bit integer and 32 and 64-bit floating-point WAV, plain or WAVEX.

Run either tool with --help to see its usage.

Download

Download wavelens-v071-beta-free-tools.zip below. Ignore the "Source code (zip)" and "Source code (tar.gz)" entries: GitHub adds them to every release, and they hold only the README and the guides.

Unzip it. It holds one folder per system, each with wavgen, wavchan and a SHA256SUMS file:

System Folder First run
Windows (64-bit) windows These beta builds aren't code-signed, so SmartScreen may show an "unknown publisher" warning. Choose "More info", then "Run anyway".
macOS (Intel; Apple Silicon runs them through Rosetta 2) macos Not signed or notarized yet, so macOS can block the first run. From inside the macos folder, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine .
Linux (64-bit Intel/AMD) linux A single self-contained file. If the shell says "permission denied", run chmod +x wavgen wavchan once.

The README has the details for each system.

sha256sum wavelens-v071-beta-free-tools.zip (Linux)

Each system folder also has a SHA256SUMS file for the files inside it: run shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS (macOS) or sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS (Linux) in that folder.

Guides

Known limitations

  • This is a beta. The builds aren't code-signed or notarized yet, which is why Windows and macOS may warn on the first run.
  • macOS builds are for Intel processors, and the Linux builds are for 64-bit Intel/AMD. There is no ARM Linux build yet.
