In custom command, allow for variables depending on context

I need the command to receive some context for when they where activated.

Describe the solution you'd like
I'd like the key-binded (and right-click , see other suggestion) command to receive the highlighted text as a parameter.
It would be also usefull for custom / command to receive the arguments

If would be interesting also to be able to set some persistent values,
And get the context (in a block?, on the prompt line, the workspace/tab name.
That would allow for a lot of ccustomization.
