Ignoring built-in display

Is there a option to let BetterDisplay to ignore the built-in display? I only want to use the dummy display function.
p.s. The dimming animation in BetterDisplay is not as smooth as the original.

Sure, you can hide the built-in display in the app menu, disable hardware/software control for the display or generally disable keyboard control as well. Let me know if you don't find the relevant options in the app!

you can use the control center slider for OS control. An other approach is to leave the native Apple keyboard brightness keys under OS control (so that will control the built-in display only) and use custom shortcuts (like Command+fn+F1/F2 or something similar) for BetterDisplay control.

The problem is, if you allow the native keys to control external displays with the app, BD has to control the internal display as well as there is no way to route back control to the OS in that case even when the mouse is on the internal display. So it's an all or nothing for the native brightness keys.

@waydabber So you are saying that if we are using the "native brightness keys", we will always have to bear with the "Built-in Display" option ?

The thing is I am connected to an external display monitor and use my Macbook's keyboard for typing purpose and controlling brightness of external monitor. The irritating thing is I have to disable "Built-in Display" option everytime I unlock my Mac as it takes the default resolution to 2560x1440. So I have two queries:

1. Is there a way to permanenly set the Display resolution to 1920x1080 so that whenever I lock/unlock my Mac, the display resolution doesn't change.
2. Is there a way to permanently disable "Built-in display" ?

I think this discussion is about brightness control so it is not relevant to your question.

• You can use "Configuration protection" to protect the resolution and prevent it from changing to something else.
• You can also configure the built-in display to be turned off on every wake by adjusting the relevant settings under Settings/Displays/Overview/Connection management settings...
