WayriCAD 3.6.7 — Fusion linked updates

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 07 Oct 05:28

WayriCAD 3.6.7 release notes

Project Fusion is updated as an independent KiCad 10 PCM package at version
0.9.5. Other PCM packages retain their published versions and ZIPs.

Fusion's PCB and schematic preview canvases now fit saved design geometry when
their tabs first open. Source preflight shows a decision for every issue and can
stage safe source-copy repairs, including restoring PCB references when a unique
schematic association proves the intended reference. Board-only copper can be
reviewed as an advisory or ignored; ambiguous identities and electrical conflicts
remain blocking. All repairs operate on a separate copy and require a fresh
preview before import.

A saved external project or subsheet can be imported with a persistent source
link. The linked-update review now offers a suggestion for each source change and
destination conflict. Ignoring a change defers that design's entire update; it
does not silently omit one value, footprint or connection. Native KiCad 10 tests
cover inherited Value and MPN fields, selected Footprint and routed placement,
with stable surviving symbol/PCB identities, source hashes and candidate checks.
The optional Update schematic; keep target placement and routing mode
preserves a locally moved/rerouted imported block while updating its schematic.
A compatible replacement footprint can bring in its new pad and body geometry at
the retained target position. Changed pad numbers, ambiguous net connections or
new DRC/unconnected findings stop the candidate for manual review.
Update PCB layout; keep target schematic is the converse reviewed mode: it
imports the source block's changed placement and routing while preserving the
target schematic and its current Value/BOM fields. It requires unchanged linked
symbol identity and electrical partitions; a mismatched footprint assignment or
new native validation finding stops the candidate.
Electrical rewiring and changes to linked-owned destination content still require
explicit review and may stop the update.

Mixed-stack imports and merges keep the source bottom copper and bottom-side
components on the output B.Cu. The source's internal copper follows its
physical order; only native full-stack F.Cu-to-B.Cu through vias are
accepted. Conversion changes the dielectric and drill environment, so review
the reported native DRC findings, clearances, impedance and fabrication limits.

Install WayriCAD-project-fusion-0.9.5-PCM.zip through KiCad 10 Plugin and
Content Manager and restart PCB Editor. Whole-project import needs matching
.kicad_pro, root .kicad_sch and .kicad_pcb files. Schematic-only subsheet
extraction can omit the source board. Offline application requires closed source
and target editors and creates a backup. The plugin remains a testing release;
other operating systems, all installed-editor workflows and manufacturing
qualification remain separate acceptance checks.

WayriCAD 3.6.6

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 06 Oct 04:17

QuickTherm and Quick PI are updated as separate KiCad 10 plugins at version 3.6.6. The other PCM packages keep their existing published versions.

  • QuickTherm: optional Gmsh/CalculiX 3D steady board conduction from selected components' declared power. The native window can locate and remember ccx, check its setup, and show the imported top/bottom field, probes and component table. Package junction temperature needs a separate RθJB input; without it junction limits stay unknown. The fixed lower-face model does not cover vias, mounting contacts, heatsinks, convection or radiation.
  • Quick PI: optional Gmsh tetrahedral copper-volume DC analysis, with a native 3D result view, layer and barrel filters, and full JSON field export. The established 2.5D analysis remains the default. The 3D mode is currently limited to a selected net, ideal source and sink pads, and prescribed current.

Install each updated PCM ZIP through KiCad 10 Plugin and Content Manager, then restart PCB Editor. CalculiX ccx must be supplied separately; first-time Gmsh setup may require access to the configured package source. Both packages retain KiCad's testing status.

Validation included Windows KiCad 10 native saved-board Gmsh/CalculiX 2.23 runs, analytical DC and thermal fixtures, native UI construction, all 18 independent PCM archive checks, and isolated wheel CLI imports. Installed-plugin launch on every supported OS and physical model qualification remain separate checks.

See the full release notes, QuickTherm setup, and Quick PI guide.

WayriCAD 3.6.5 — Project Fusion included

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 05 Oct 19:52

Project Fusion is now part of the WayriCAD source and Python wheel, and its own KiCad 10 PCM package is updated to 0.9.4. The other 17 PCM packages remain at their published 3.6.4 versions.

Fusion 0.9.4 fixes schematic-to-PCB footprint associations and preserves existing copper when a source-copy repair only renames a net or keeps equivalent pin connections. Changed connections with ambiguous copper stop for review. Existing generated projects are not migrated automatically.

Install WayriCAD-project-fusion-0.9.4-PCM.zip through KiCad's Plugin and Content Manager, then restart PCB Editor. Fusion remains a testing package. Its live editor Update PCB and connected IPC workflows have not been qualified; review generated projects with ERC and DRC before fabrication.

Validation on Windows with KiCad 10: Fusion source tests 126 passed and 51 skipped; targeted native association and copper tests passed after using the suite's test import path; root tests 336 passed and 77 skipped; all 18 candidate PCM packages passed schema, icon and isolated-runtime checks; the 3.6.5 wheel passed isolated CLI imports. See docs/RELEASE_NOTES_3.6.5.md and the attached checksums.

All seven platform CI matrix jobs and the PI benchmark passed on the tagged commit. GitHub cancelled the benchmark's first attempt while it waited for a runner; the rerun completed successfully.

Project Fusion 0.9.4 beta 1 — schematic links and copper preservation

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 03 Oct 17:13

Project Fusion 0.9.4 beta 1 fixes the PCB-to-schematic associations that could make Update PCB from Schematic import the same footprints again. It also prevents source-copy repair from deleting all tracks, vias and planes on a changed net.

  • Use the exact root-free PCB paths exported by KiCad while retaining schematic instance identities.
  • Preserve routed copper, zone definitions, geometry, UUIDs and groups for equivalent numbered-pad connections, including safe net renames.
  • Stop with affected-net and copper-item details when changed connections require engineering review.
  • Keep current upstream native CLI discovery and installation/help improvements.

Install WayriCAD-project-fusion-0.9.4-PCM.zip using KiCad 10 Plugin and Content Manager → Install from File, then restart PCB Editor. The source ZIP is for review and development. This prerelease retains org.wayri.projectfusion, the SWIG loader and testing status.

Validation on Windows / KiCad 10.0.6: 136 integrated-source tests passed (41 skipped); 136 extracted-PCM tests passed (41 skipped); zero failures/errors. Native association and copper regressions were enabled. The full precursor native backend matrix passed 151 tests with 25 skips, including 100 instances, extraction, insertion and repeated linked updates. All eight GitHub CI checks passed for source commit f0b70f26592fc59bb714c3242b251f3bfff6fb3a. Checksums and provenance are attached.

Zone fill still depends on the destination board outline. Existing generated projects are not automatically migrated, and installation does not recreate copper removed by older versions. Live editor Update PCB, installation/restart and connected IPC transactions were not qualified in this run. ERC, DRC and engineering review remain required before manufacturing.

The published 0.9.3 assets and stable PCM feed remain unchanged. Source changes are tracked in PR #24. Implementation and validation were AI-assisted; no independent human engineering review is claimed.

WayriCAD 3.6.4

@wayri wayri released this 02 Oct 17:53

WayriCAD 3.6.4 release notes

Mechanical Check can now compare two saved KiCad boards in one 3D coordinate
frame. Select a comparison board, enter its X/Y/Z translation and Z rotation,
then run Exact 3D solids. The review distinguishes exact solid overlaps
from below-limit clearances between components and substrates on different
boards. Select a finding to inspect its contact in the native 3D viewer and
open an X, Y, Z or custom-direction cross-section. The offline HTML report
includes the same per-finding section curves and a 3D cutaway control.

The check uses KiCad STEP exports and FreeCAD/Open CASCADE. Both boards need
saved files and resolvable STEP models; unresolved comparison-board models
keep the result incomplete. Translation is in millimetres relative to the
current board's STEP export origin. Rotation is around Z, so perpendicular
board mounting is not yet represented. Cross-sections are exact cuts of the
imported solids; a plane that misses a body has no curve. Board and model
changes require a new run. The exported report excludes the comparison
board's local file path.

All 17 independently installable PCM packages use version 3.6.4. Update the
Mechanical Check package in KiCad 10's Plugin and Content Manager, then
restart PCB Editor. Other packages receive the aligned suite version without
new feature changes in this release.

Validation includes 33 Mechanical Check tests on Windows with KiCad 10 and
FreeCAD, including native collision, near-clearance and distant-board cases,
source-file preservation, cross-sections and offline report output. Source
documentation validation passed. The wider repository suite had 333 passes,
77 skips and one unrelated Windows subprocess-handle failure in a Trace RLC
CLI test; this release does not claim that test passed locally.

Project Fusion 0.9.3 addition

Independently installable testing package for visual project/subsheet merging, draggable PCB and sheet blocks, inline reviewed repairs, BOM/fields and linked updates. Install WayriCAD-project-fusion-0.9.3-PCM.zip using PCM Install from File, apply, then restart PCB Editor and open Tools → External Plugins → Wayri Project Fusion.

Uses the native KiCad 10 SWIG loader; full project apply requires saved and closed target editors. Live schematic insertion is unsupported. Focused Windows KiCad 10.0.6 native checks: 139 passed, 27 skipped; extracted ZIP action registration and native dialog construction checked, without connected-editor transaction qualification. Linux native qualification remains unverified; macOS and KiCad 11 are unsupported. MIT license.

Fusion source at the validated commit. The original v3.6.4 tag, suite wheel/source archive and existing PCM downloads predate this addition and remain unchanged. Separate Fusion source and provenance downloads accompany the new package; resources-fusion-0.9.3.zip extends the repository icons without replacing resources.zip.

Version 0.9.3 also avoids editor-only registration during standalone native CLI imports. Native CLI help and the packaged dialog were exercised under bundled KiCad Python.

WayriCAD 3.6.3 — plugin fixes and foil heater patterns

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 01 Oct 10:17

WayriCAD 3.6.3 release notes

This patch corrects failures reported after 3.6.2 on KiCad 10 for Windows.

  • The shared launcher skips KiCad's GUI executable when looking for a Python
    runtime. Probing that executable with Python's -I option produced the
    “Unknown option 'I'” dialog and opened another KiCad window. The launcher
    now tests Python executables only.
  • Quick PI imports math for its input checks. Selecting a net, source and
    sink and pressing Run analysis no longer stops at name 'math' is not defined. Other analysis errors remain visible in the status and console.
  • The Quick PI console starts folded and the chart uses more of its plot area.
    Quick SI keeps its results table compact so the route preview gets more
    vertical space. The controls can still be expanded or the window resized.
  • QuickTherm now starts with a compact, guided setup. When a board has no saved
    power or thermal-resistance fields, enter explicit values for selected parts
    in the window and run without editing the PCB. Results and reports identify
    those values as user-entered assumptions; the board preview fits the window.
  • Every independent package registers its own PCB Editor toolbar button through
    the legacy action API. WayriCAD — All tools… remains available in the
    External Plugins menu on displays where KiCad clips its flat action list.
  • Embed3D opens a selective workspace by default. Scan the saved design, check
    component assets, then preview Embed + relink or Unwind to local
    folder
    before applying. The previous full-project localization, backup
    workflow and other asset operations remain under Options. Unwind targets a
    unique subfolder under the project's local/ directory.
  • Bulk Label Editor skips graphical board shapes when listing editable text.
    Fanout and Via Stitching read curved filled-copper boundaries through a
    bounded polygon tessellation path. Constraint Studio keeps its native
    worksheet visible while the optional embedded browser starts.
  • Pin Extractor filters saved-board footprint listings by the requested
    reference pattern and displays readable KiCad library IDs. Saved-board
    Quick PI and QuickTherm runs use the scientific runtime without requiring
    KiCad's IPC package when a PCB path is already supplied.
  • BOM Studio's local browser fallback uses KiCad's bundled wx file picker to
    open a project when the embedded browser cannot start.
  • Manufacturing Readiness compares saved and live boards while ignoring only
    transient KiCad footprint header metadata. It still requires every design
    token to match and retains exact saved-file hashes for release checks.
  • Heater Designer adds circular rasters, split circular foil, annular arc
    meanders with bottom leads, and seeded rectangular/circular maze paths.
    Grade-specific alloy and custom bulk/sheet-resistance models drive loading
    calculations. Positive conductor SVG export supports external foil workflows;
    PCB apply retains copper semantics. Circular/maze patterns currently use one
    layer, and thermal previews retain a rectangular substrate envelope.

Update each installed WayriCAD package to 3.6.3 in Plugin and Content Manager,
including QuickTherm as an independent package, then restart PCB Editor. An
installed QuickTherm copy showing version 0.0 or 3.6.0 is an older package
and will not be updated by updating Quick PI alone.

Validation covers the shared test suite, independent package and wheel checks,
and offline KiCad 10.0.6 windows and board actions on Windows. A running editor
on every supported OS has not been tested.

Known validation limits: Embed3D Close in the installed editor still needs manual verification. Full feature coverage on every supported host has not been established. The release contains source and distributable packages only; private local projects and analysis outputs are excluded.

WayriCAD 3.6.2

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 30 Sep 09:45

WayriCAD 3.6.2 updates all 17 independent KiCad 10 plugins with a shared startup loading window and a fix for wx interpreting plugin launch arguments as KiCad options. Quick PI, QuickTherm, and BOM Studio also show loading feedback during their desktop startup. The WayriCAD — All tools… menu entry remains the searchable route to plugins that do not fit in KiCad's flat External Plugins menu.

Validation

  • Windows, KiCad 10.0.6: a disposable PCB Editor opened the 3.6.2 Constraint Studio ZIP; its window and visual workspace became ready, and the owned editor stopped cleanly.
  • Root suite: 339 passed, 68 skipped, 144 subtests passed.
  • BOM Studio: 1,233 tests passed, 1 skipped. Embed3D: 320 tests passed, 19 skipped.
  • Constraint Studio and QuickTherm: 378 passed, 22 skipped, 15 subtests passed. Mechanical Check: 31 passed.
  • All 17 PCM ZIPs passed schema, entrypoint, icon, Python syntax, and SHA-256 validation. Documentation and isolated wheel imports passed.

Numerical methods and board-write contracts are unchanged. Automated tests on other platforms do not establish live KiCad window compatibility. This release was prepared with AI assistance and reviewed through the listed automated and native checks; it was not independently reviewed by a human as part of this run.

WayriCAD 3.6.1

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 29 Sep 20:41

WayriCAD 3.6.1 updates Trace RLC and Quick SI with corrected microstrip and symmetric stripline impedance estimates. Trace RLC also has a visual manual cross-section calculator for CPW, grounded CPW and edge-coupled stripline. Unsupported board geometry remains unresolved instead of receiving a guessed impedance. BOM Studio now finishes its Quit response before stopping its local server.

Download each plugin as its own KiCad PCM ZIP. QuickTherm remains a separate plugin with its own ZIP and icon. See the release notes and RLC capability matrix for assumptions and limits.

The release contains 17 plugin ZIPs, a Python wheel and source archive, repository icon resources, and SHA-256 checksums.

WayriCAD 3.6.0 — standalone QuickTherm

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 29 Sep 17:47

QuickTherm is now a separate KiCad plugin with its own folder, thermometer icon and menu entry. Install WayriCAD-quick-therm-3.6.0-PCM.zip through KiCad PCM. Update Quick PI to 3.6.0 as well to remove its old thermal action, then restart KiCad.

QuickTherm includes a larger resizable board view, top/bottom thermal overlays, virtual probes, a sortable component-temperature table, and mapped minimum/maximum temperature checks. It supports HTML/JSON reports, the wayricad-therm CLI and a KiCad jobset preset.

QuickTherm guide and screenshots · Installation guide

The release contains 17 independent PCM packages plus the Python wheel and source distribution. SHA256SUMS-3.6.0.txt records the asset hashes. QuickTherm is a steady-state screening tool; its thermal estimates depend on the supplied component, material and boundary inputs.

WayriCAD 3.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@wayri wayri released this 28 Sep 23:37
52038ca

WayriCAD 3.5.0 adds QuickTherm as a direct PCB Editor action in the Quick PI package. Its own icon opens the thermal workspace, where you can map saved component power and thermal-resistance fields, inspect top/bottom and layer views, and export results. Optional board models include explicit copper, dielectric, via, airflow, radiation, heatsink, and mounting-boundary inputs. Quick PI also gains a visual series-path editor, fixed and current-dependent diode drops, and return-path screening.

This release contains 16 independently installable KiCad 10 PCM packages. Quick PI exposes both WayriCAD Quick PI and WayriCAD QuickTherm actions. Published 3.4.0 assets are unchanged.

Validation: all eight GitHub CI jobs passed on the merged source commit 52038ca; native KiCad 10.0.6 opened QuickTherm with its icon and thermal tab, and a saved-board 1 W × 40 K/W test at 25 °C returned 65 °C. All 16 PCM ZIPs passed schema, entrypoint, icon, syntax, and SHA-256 checks; the wheel smoke test passed.

QuickTherm reports steady-state screening estimates, not CFD, transients, or coupled electrothermal simulation. Enter verified material and boundary values and review the QuickTherm user guide before interpreting board temperatures.
