Feature Request: Currency in Sure Finance Android app

Would be great if I can set the currency instead of hardcoding to the default currency. Also android app should have a config to set the default currency in case it differs than the default of the account.

I don't quite understand your needs. Could you elaborate? Where did you see the preset currency but want to change it?

If you want to change your account currency, I believe this is a one-off operation and not suitable for integration into the app.
If you are referring to total assets/total liabilities, you can view other asset information by swiping or tapping. This feature may change in the future; we are still working to present a large amount of key information on one screen without sacrificing aesthetics.

This is indeed a misunderstanding of how things work in Sure. The currency is associated with the account, and there is a Family currency that everything gets converted to for ease of reporting. The Android app is not a place where any of those things are exposed.

Well currently the android app if I wanted to log an expense, it would ask me the value of that expense in default currency of the account, which in my case is USD. But say I paid in euros, and I wanted to log it as euros not USD. Right now I would have to manually convert the amount into USD so I can log it in the app.

I'm mainly referring to expenses here.

That means you're logging the expense in the wrong account, no? If that account is denominated in EUR (for example) at some point the money you spent (USD) was exchanged into EUR. You need to log that expense also (another account)

For me I liked to keep it simple so I kept everything on the same account even though expenses technically come from different accounts with different currencies. I denote different bank accounts with tags instead of accounts.

Indeed. But the actual "ground truth" is that your financial institution did an FX transaction in your name and charged you fees potentially (and chose an exchange rate different from the one we'll get form Yahoo Finance) for that day. For transactions like those I can see us capturing "draft" amounts that later get cleaned up at "reconciliation" time.

What the API supports is different accounts with different currencies. Then the Family has a currency that things get converted to when displaying summaries/reports/etc. Pretty sure the API doesn't support the scenario we're discussing here.

Dreaming out loud here I could see the mobile app allowing the entry but putting it in "draft" like I say above if you change the currency from the one that corresponds to that account. Your account balance will be off until you fix that "draft" - and it complicates things down the line (there is no "reconciliation" step in Sure - and I'd rather keep it that way/simple)

Back in my days of using Quicken, there was an extra step to take to "clear" transactions and match them to the numbers that got downloaded. That was annoying and added very little value IMHO. Kept you busy on tasks that add nothing to your financial planning.
