Preview Release 0.7.2 - You've got mail!
Pre-release
Pre-release
This release brings a private (but not secure) chat back to the platform, bridging to the old AIM protocol via a re-implemented Oscar server on webOS Archive's infrastructure. It also adds EAS mail/calendar/contact sync, and paves the way for modern Auth.
webOS Chat (new)
- Messaging 3.2.0, webOS CE's Messaging with its IM transport and libpurple, now built into Lunacy.
- Chat over AIM through webOS Chat (oscar.webosarchive.org), signed in with your webOS Account. There's
no pass phrase to type: the chat account is set up as soon as you sign in. - webOS Chat in Accounts:
- Add Account → webOS Chat turns chat on;
- removing the account turns chat off, and it stays off until you add it again;
- signing out of the webOS Account resets that.
- Palm's old AIM account type is gone from Add Account, so there's no password prompt that can't work.
- New webOS Chat icons.
- IM transport fixes, made in codepoet's fork and built by webOS CE:
- accounts no longer go "idle" by themselves five minutes after signing in;
- deleting a buddy no longer crashes the transport, which used to crash-loop at every sign-in;
- buddies' status reaches Messaging after the transport restarts, and accounts sign back in;
- only the accounts webOS has sign in, so a removed account no longer signs in invisibly and swallows
messages.
- Exchange security policies, enforced by Android's own screen lock.
- An IMAP account with a message deleted on the device no longer gets stuck: new mail arrives again
instead of push failing and retrying every second.
Fixes
- Messaging plays its own sent and received sounds instead of the alert ring for everything. This covers
any app that names a sound by its own address. - Lunacy's database now returns a property stored as null as null, as webOS did.
- The chat threader no longer spins at high CPU (the database's index for deleted messages).
- Text fields show their cursor as soon as they're tapped on scaled cards, such as Add Buddy.
- The status bar runs up into a display cutout and flows around the camera.
- Time-zone rules leave out a zone they don't know, as the TouchPad does.
- App Catalog's icon replaces HP's shopping bag, as on webOS CE.
Under the hood
- Bundled apps moved to CoreApps/ to help share with LuneOS, and build.sh builds the same bytes every time.
- A database watch fires at once when matching items already exist, as on the TouchPad.
