Preview Release 0.8.0 - Worlds Collide
Pre-releaseThis release brings Android and webOS closer together.
Web pages from an Android browser can be pinned to Luna, and Android apps can be hidden from Luna. Going the other way, if you prefer to use an Android Launcher, you can now pin webOS apps to an external launcher.
Notifications cross the barrier between Android and webOS, with non-persistent Android notifications showing up in the webOS notification area. In phone mode, portrait orientation, notifications stack on the bottom of the screen, just like the Pre3. In landscape or tablet mode, notifications appear at the top.
More PDK games are now compatible, and there were other bug fixes and updates to preloaded apps, runtimes and SDK.
Newly Supported Games to Test
Temple Run 2, Fruit Ninja
Foldables
- On a foldable, Lunacy switches between its phone and tablet layouts when the device folds or opens, and keeps every card open, running and where it was.
- Email's message view and IAmA reddit's right-hand pane now fill the opened screen.
Phone mode follows the Pre3
- Notifications sit along the bottom of the screen, as on the Pre3.
- The launcher is a centred grid, long words are shortened, and labels stay clear of the icon art.
- The first row of icons sits closer under the tabs.
Notifications
- Android's notifications appear as webOS dashboards, kept calm: no lock-screen pop-ups and no per-app settings.
- Status bar banners now behave like the TouchPad's. The notification icons fade out while a banner scrolls in and come back after it, and the bar's divider moves out with the banner instead of being drawn under its text.
Launcher and Software Manager
- You can hide any app from the launcher, webOS or Android.
- You can pin a webOS app to Android's home screen, and it opens straight into that app.
- Other apps can pin their shortcuts to Lunacy's launcher. A pinned shortcut's remove dialog says it's a shortcut and whose it is.
- Software Manager and First Use have a list per tab, and pages fade cleanly.
PDK games and native apps
- PDK apps run natively on 64-bit devices that can run 32-bit code.
- Temple Run 2 and Fruit Ninja play.
- ScummVM runs, with PDK start scripts, the on-screen keyboard and the /media/internal folders.
- Tilt works the way webOS reported it, measured on the TouchPad.
- The picture keeps its shape, at the right size, when the screen turns.
- The screen stays on while a game is in front.
- Graphics fixes: Lunacy now gives apps its own numbers for graphics objects instead of the device driver's.
Apps
- Photos & Videos is now webOS CE's 3.2.0, which adds rotate and crop.
- Videos from Photos play in Android's video player.
- Memos runs its wall and memo grid to the bottom of the card.
- An .apk file opens in Android's installer.
- Device Info wraps long service IDs instead of widening the page.
Frameworks
- Enyo patches 0011 and 0012: a native web view's cut-outs are drawn in the right order and follow a moving box. Both are also in the SDK.
- A compatibility-layer fix had been making scrolling rows shake; it no longer does.
Shell
- Closing a card releases its hold on the screen, so devices sleep again.
- Lunacy now runs on the Onyx Boox Go Color 7.
